Nice details, Eric. Well focused.
I guess the light was not very good. Ideally you don't use flash, or use a ringflash, and avoid the harsh shadows.
Have you tried bouncing the flash off a wall or using some kind of diffuser?

Angelo,
Thank you for the suggestions. The picture was taken towards the end of the day and I had to use the flash to stop the motion of the ant going about his business. I'm afraid I got lazy and went out a little unprepared. I actually do have a ringflash that I use in the office, but of course that's where it still was when I took this picture... Eric
