Great shot Bruce, congrats on BIP! :)

Thank you all for the comments, I was pleased with the BIP, and impressed how quickly it was awarded. I have been ambivalent about this picture - sometimes I like it, other times it does nothing, but it has been growing on me.

The image certainly caught my eye when I took it.

I was going to try to explain what I see in it, but decided to leave it to viewers to make their own interpretation. But I have changed the title to give a hint.

Now that this one has dropped off the front page, perhaps it is time to explain what I see in the image.

Its all about the balance of contrasts in the cycle of life.

The dark green almost black of the primordial sea balanced by the lightness of the land represented by the jetty.

The vertical lines of the natural timber in the jetty balanced by the horizontal slash of artificial yellow.

The horizontal line of yellow balanced by the vertical line of the gull's body.

The balance of life and death in the starfish being the gull's supper.

And the cycle completes with the gull looking out over the primordial sea, the provider of many more suppers but probably the ultimate destination.

Hope that isn't too pretentious - thanks for reading.

Great capture, like how the platform divides the frame forming an L shape. The lone bird with it's meal is superb relative to the composition. Well taken & seen Bruce, warm congrats for the BIP award, regards.

Cheers Roland, very much appreciate the comment.
