It's a great smile. Looks like you used a flash which threw her shadow against the wall directly behind her. Makes the photo look more of a snapshot rather than a "portrait." I'd like to see a series though on your beautiful gf Erica. . she's got the look that makes for endless arrangements.

A very pretty girl, nicely posed.

If you use a dark background the shadow of the flash won't show. Also - the farther she is from the background the less noticeable the shadow is (because light intensity from the flash falls off so quickly with distance). Also, I feel that the line running down behind is distracts from the image.

Generally you would put the model facing into the shot rather, although of course there are no rules, only guidelines ... But her expression and the tilt of her head contradict the tension introduced by cropping the photograph off right in front of her. The question you need to ask is: "What am I trying to say?" Having asked that, then the essence of composition is to arrange all elements in the photograph so that they add up to the same answer.

My last suggestion - normally I object to unnecessarily framing an image, but in this case I think a thin black line would be helpful to distinguish between the background and the white of the webpage. However if the background were all a flat white (so that it merged seamlessly with the website background) then it would be a nice artistic effect.

Phew... that was a lot in one go.

Cheers,

Jon

Ant: This is my favorite photo in your portfolio. Your gf (girlfriend) has some very expressive eyes! They are lovely and if I were you I would make a portfolio of some closeups of them. She expresses herself to you with them and they show her better than anything, although she is a very attractive girl. I would suggest some natural light shots of her eyes with a good B/W film taken when she is in a playful mood. Thanks for the compliment on my IR photo. Anson

wow anson thank you so much first for your critque..i can tell that it was sincere and that you put time into it..i respect youfor that..and yes, i love my gf eyes as well..they remind of the kind of eyes you would see on egyptain woman the way they are shaped, and her true emotions do come through her eyes..i do want to make my portfolio with more of my gf, but you know how most women are and always say they look ugly or not good enough..but i will try my best toget my way and maybe do a section on just her and her eyes..good idea! and your welcome for your photo..you have a good first photo to start out your portfolio..cant wait to see more! God BLess you
Ant
