Hello Hugo,
very nice composition once again,
I like the way you add more than one building in your picture so the fisheye works very well here.
my best regards
Burak

Manu     {K:13015} 7/9/2005
One BIG cross in the sky....good ol' New York!

If I were to be picky...the bottom left and bottom right of the sky seems a little bright...just as well I'm not being picky, eh?

Great overall composition with just the right amount of bend on the fisheye.

Cheers

Manu

Clifton........

Mary Sue Hayward   {K:17525} 7/9/2005
This image really rocks! I had to steady myself for a moment to view it properly. The fisheye, once again, is the perfect lens to capture the mood of being among all those tall buildings.

Even though the viewer knows exactly what this is, the perspective and fisheye distortion give it an abstract feel.

Awesome, Hugo.

Paolo Corradini   {K:50066} 7/9/2005
wowo stunning!!!!! great work!

Di Ciuccio Maurizio   {K:57483} 7/9/2005

Nice composition too. Perfect in b/w

Gerhard Hoogterp   {K:6468} 7/9/2005
Great cross in the sky.. It gives this image it's own unique feeling.. Wonderful piece of work!

Rashed Abdulla   {K:152890} 7/9/2005
another master piece of beaty and with great composition and details, very best regards my friend.

tom rumland   {K:14874} 7/9/2005
hugo, this composition is great. i like that you stood below the lighted sign on the lower left. the protruding lights make for an interesting foreground element often missing from this type of shot. it's not every day that you see a near-far composition looking up! i also like that you offset the X created by the sky just a bit. combined with the fisheye effect it makes for a very organic, flowing shape. very pleasing. very well done!

there is something that disturbs me here tho. but it's probably just a product of resizing the jpeg. i can see what appears to be artifacts on the sky and a bit on the sign itself. i'm not sure how you resize, but i found that resizing D100 shots to 25% works best and produces the least possible number of aberrations and compression artifacts. this will result in an image of 752 pixels on the long side which should give you plenty of room to add a frame and still fit in the uf upload limits.

take care,
tom

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 7/9/2005
Great vision, Hugo!
A very different and so much more dramatic cityscape.
Well done, indeed.
Best regards, Chris

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 7/9/2005
Another excellent image, Hugo. I've never really seen a shot with a fisheye lense and am very impressed with the results. Again, B&W is the right choice.

Mark

Sally Morgan   {K:9219} 7/9/2005
Super perspective - I like the gently curved 'x' of sky, and the buildings are so sharp from top to bottom.

Hermen Pen   {K:9117} 7/9/2005
Great X :-)
Makes it a very powerfol composition.
I would have preferred if the lower spotlight would not just have touched the middle building. (By taking a slightly different viewpoint ?)

regards,
Hermen

Massimo    {K:5595} 7/9/2005
the great vision.good.
massimo

Roger Williams   {K:82213} 7/9/2005
Hugo, your assured use of the extreme fisheye is most impressive! I think I would have made all the verticals run through the center of the FOV, making them all straight, but your slightly off-balance view has its own attractions. This one joins the other one in my favourites.

Roberto Bertone   {K:13222} 7/9/2005
Ottima immagine e inquadratura!!!

Saluti.

Don Loseke   {K:32500} 7/10/2005
A great image in black and white. Such an interesting point of view. Don.

Carolyn Wiesbrock   {K:14051} 7/10/2005
Interesting perspective, composition and b/w tone.
Amazing work!

Rob Ernsting   {K:8919} 7/10/2005
Spectacular shot Hugo.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi Verena,

Borrow one? Why? Since I bought the 10.5 mm, I keep it attached to my camera by default, it has many more uses than NYC allone...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi Manu,

Thanks for being picky! I do agree with you; those bits are not only lighter, but completely blown out in the original.... It's less noticable in the B&W version. I appreciate your honest comment, and please continue being picky...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Oh, yes. Loved the feel of NYC. So very much alive, full of people, yet empty and desolated in it's anynomousness.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Thanks, Petros, maybe it does....:) Or would it be just the excessive use now it's still fairly new....?

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi tom,

thanks for your indepth analysis. Very useful. As you know, I don't spend as much effort in resizing my images, and I had to look very closely to see the artefacts, but you have a point there. I'll definately bear it in mind... thanks for the tip!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi Hermen, Good point you made. A few steps closer would've put me in the middle of the street, if I remember correctly, but now you mention it, it's something I should've taken care of. Thanks, and much appreciated!

Good to hear from you again.

Cheers,

hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi Roger, Interesting suggestion. I noticed that I go for a deliberate tilt in my photos more often than not with the 10.5mm, also deliberately staying away from centered and symmetric images. In this case, however, it could've worked. Need to keep it in mind to regain the versatility of my photos. Thanks!

Cheers,

Hugo

Amna Al Shamsi   {K:20764} 7/10/2005
You adopted interesting style recently. The B&W works very well here

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:176790} 7/10/2005
Hi Hugo
..and as first of the three corners it is fantastic.. I have thought in this period, (where I have many photos but nobody attracts to me) to points seen particular, in the last photos I have tried to become small and to imagine how much is big the world as an example for one ant. now the world for we is the moment to see how much is large, for your photos! I very appreciate the sights from that point much powerful, moreover the idea to render the photo square is strong! a species of "holgaroid" but the geometric game of the sky as crossing is fantastic. the much beautiful cross of the sky.
I was looking at her with "F11", he took a dome effect 3D!
cheers
roby

Galal El Missary   {K:84090} 7/10/2005
Great perpsective Hugo , Excellent use of Fisheye , regards .

Galal

AJ Miller   {K:43691} 7/10/2005
What I like here is that it is the gap between the buildings that appears to be the main subject, not the buildings. A big X in the sky!
AJ

Hermen Pen   {K:9117} 7/10/2005
Safety first - of course :-)

Orazio Minnella   {K:46638} 7/10/2005
Wow!!!This is a beautiful shot.Excellent point of observation with a great B/W tones and lights.
Orazio

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30021} 7/10/2005
The first wrapped me in its arms...this one releases me to the sky. There isn't the same sense of "being there" in this one...leaves me a bit cold emotionally, but the composition is strong. I notice it does sing for many others, so this is just a personal preference thing. Hugs. Antonia

Walter Scarella   {K:17231} 7/10/2005
Hi Hugo ! Excellent POV ! Great composition and perfect B&W work with nice tones. Well done !!! Regards...Walter

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 7/10/2005
I love the distorted geometry of this shot. For some reason this comes off as overexposed to me, not sure if that is from the way you are presenting it or simply some of the blown-out areas reflecting off the buildings. The things that kind of breaks it for me are the lights for the billboard though.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/10/2005
Hi Stefan, the photo is slightly overexposed. The contrast was rather big between the dark signs and the shade and the bright sky. It's less noticable in the b&w version, though. And I applied some masking, to try to reduce the blown out parts even further by riviving the contrasts and details in the dark parts. Couldn't do anything with the blown out sky anymore. Thanks for your comment.

Cheers,

Hugo

Patrick Jacobson   {K:29151} 7/10/2005
Once again.. great clarity and superb perspective! The tones are also very good!

Cheers

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 7/11/2005
another great shot... makes me want to upload some pics of NYC :) great perspective and angle.. nicely done

Ian McIntosh   {K:38401} 7/11/2005
Oh man who needs to go inside to see the show, "the wall" is playing up above. What on earth is that light running down the corner at one o'clock I wonder by the way.

Den Thompson   {K:30432} 7/11/2005
Super composition Hugo. You've made converging verticals work to your advantage in a most skillful way. B/W is certainly the right way to present this. Colour would take away the stunning impact. Well done.
Den

Lex Bronkhorst   {K:14152} 7/12/2005

Groet,
Lex.

Liz Wallis   {K:25213} 7/12/2005
Hugo, your work is fascinating, and I love the way that you have captured this city. You have a great eye.

andrea giuseppe   {K:3122} 7/13/2005
Wonderful perspective.... I tried to get some picture with the lens versus to the sky. Well done

Shane O'Neill   {K:3064} 7/21/2005
I have always wondered how the D100 would work with the 10.5mm lens and now I know. Perfectly used here. Great shot

NN     {K:26787} 7/30/2005
