Location City -  Crovie
State -  ABERDEENSHIRE
Country - United Kingdom   United Kingdom
About We visited this idyllic former fishing village on the way back to our B&B, having stayed a night with some friends just north of Aberdeen. Here's a brief extract from the Crovie 'homepage'?

"Crovie is built on a remarkably narrow ledge between the base of the cliffs forming the east side of Gamrie Bay and the sea. It sits looking across the bay to the rather larger and more securely located village of Gardenstown.

Crovie is unique. There may be other villages where the use of motor vehicles is discouraged. But as far as we know there's nowhere else in mainland Britain where it is simply impossible to use one. The shelf on which the village is perched is so narrow it only has room for a row of cottages and the footpath in front of them. Only a few feet from the cottages is the drop to the rocky foreshore and the sea."

It's a fabulous place!! Enjoy the 'away from it all' flavour I've tried to capture in this shot.

Best regards, Chris

Very interesting image and text. There is a place here(in nearby Tacoma,Washington)called Salmon Beach, where the houses are similarly located below a high bluff along the bay, with direct access only by boat.

Beautiful photo of an interesting village, Chris. Very nice composition. I like your inclusion of the wall in the foreground. The cool colors with the red roofs of the houses for contrast...perfect. Best wishes and thanks for your kind comments. Larry

Hi Chris, This spot seems vaguely familiar. Maybe I've been there, or is it because you have shown us more photos of this venue? I don't know. What I do know is that I like the composition as well as the tones. Very nice photo.

Cheers,

Hugo

Wonderful shot having the viewer feel as though she is atanding on the pier looking at the lovely row of houses along the shoreline. Neat that there are no motor vehicles. That must make it more peaceful and less polluted. Beautiful colours and detail, as usual. Superb composition.

This is beautiful Chris, sounds like you wouldn't want to come home a little tippsy... The composition is well done as always. Too many just take the scene and don't study it like you do. Don.

I lived in Scotland for over two years, and we didn't often get weather like this, but when we did, it was a photographer's paradise. You must have been fortunate.

Giorgio Goretti   {K:15471} 7/11/2005
hi Chris, so did you cross the Adrian's wall? ;-)
a magical place indeed, very good shot

No cars? Sounds ideal!

I like your approach here, with the low angle and use of the pier wall to lead the eye into the composition, then an imaginary curve off the frame tot he left, followed by the row of houses taking the eye into the distance.

It certainly does sound Idyllic Chris! Very beautiful scenery too.... but then I love Scotland and on a trip to Dundee on Monday for a funeral managed to take over 100 shots on the way home!!!

Beautiful and certainly somewhere I shall be looking out for on my next trip out that way....

Khaled Mursi Hammoud   {K:52583} 7/13/2005
I think the foreground added more drama to the photo Chris.. well seen and captured landscape.
Thanx for sharing my friend,
Khaled.
