a good shot of a bird in flight. did you try a faster shutter speed? with the speed these birds move their wings, a shutter speed of about 1/1000 would produce a sharper image. DOF is good here.

This is called his dusk flight. I had to stretch to get that much light. The Rebel has a top flash sync of 1/200. Yes you can stop the wings at 1/900th and above. The real problem is if it is in the daylight there are conrast and other light situations envoled and they are not there in the middle of the day to shoot.
