What time was your tour, 1030 or 1130am? and when were you there? both times I have been there was in May and there are beams at 10:30 and less people .
Very nice image, we prefer the lower Antelope canyon lately very few people and good stuff to shoot. Any time of day is good in the lower, did you get over there? (I live near Phoenix-4 hour drive)

My intelligence was limited - the article I read said the lower canyon was still closed. When we got there I went straight to the upper canyon. We had a lot to do that day, and did not want to pay more for the photo tour, so we started at 10:30 AM and left just as the light beams started.
To do it up right you would probably want to go in the summer starting at 11:30 AM AZ time and stay over the sunlight zenith.
In retrospect the lower canyon appears to be longer and less frequented, and probably a better choice.
It is a hard location not to take a great shot in though, if you have a tripod and a wider angle lens.
My only suggestion is to stick toward the entrace for full tonality and bracket a little bit.

I think you can be compared to Michael.
The only difference is the amount of time one spends trying to shoot the image. If you can pull that off in 30 minutes in a tour and Michael waits 5 hours, with a ?medium format?, there is very little difference in skill in my opinion, there is a huge difference in patience and perseverance and discipline, and one has to respect Michael for that.
The truth is I get annoyed by Michael F. While I respect and really do like his photography work, i find the titles of the pieces a bit, well, too much. I don't mean to belittle his work or talent, i am not fond of pop art. Maybe i am jealous. That must be it.

Micheal, The lower has been open for a number of years. The 9 guys that lost there lives there was 10-15 years ago and that will not happen again, they have more control and even safety ladders in case of flash floods. Those guys were told not to go down in the canyon , but said they came a long way and were going anyway!!most were French guys.
It's an extra charge $16 for lower, and if you have a short time you did fine. The 11:30 Photo pass (extra time, extra$5) is the best time, but everyone goes at that time... I hoped you enjoyed you trip.
I'm retired and go to that area,sedona,others often.

1/13 at F5.3 - more importantly I took 5 shots in 20 seconds. From the 5 shots I then used Photoshop to mask dark areas to bring out the tones and warmth.
I have really limited time on vacation and at this point snapped a burst of shots to later process.
