the view is really beautiful; lovely countryside and best for your mum :-)
going back to your shot, I thing the contrast is very strong here and this cause that there are no visible details in the shadows (especially in the foreground rock); I think that early morning or evening would be a better time for taking pictures here; in such situation man can also wait when the sun is covered by the clouds so sunlight intensity drops dramatically and the contrast is not so strong;
anyway, good try :-)
