Very soft and velvet like in feel Laurie. I like the toning of it too. It could (much as my own shot needed) possibly do with a little more DOF than you have used to try to bring more of the texture of the rose petals into focus. I think this would then allow the velvet like feel to be retained but add more interest and highlight the beuatiful rose petal textures more. How are you getting on with that lens and the DOF?
Love the photo as it is regardless!

I don't think you could illustrate the concept of 'soft' much better! :) There's some beautiful tones and shadows, which the lilac color fills out really nicely! For some reason I find myself looking for one nice sharp spot to fix on (does that make any sense? Could be just me :)
