About Larry Q and I went out to shoot the moon the other night. Mixed luck overall, but the way the moon seemed to be nested in these branches and the glow around caught my eye. Thanks for looking..

Sorry I've been behind on comments, I been very busy and haven't made it on here much. Will try to catch up this weekend.

Mark,

Love this one! The colour and the glow around the moon are surreal. Well captured.

Very spooky Mark. It looks like a halloween moon. I love the glow around the moon. Nice shot.

Very nice composition, Mark! I like the way you positioned the silhouettes, and the haze around the moon adds an interesting effect.
Dave.

Real nice Mark

Very nicely done, Mark. Great exposure ? nothing too bright or too dark. I have tried many moon pictures lately, but a lot of them landed in the digital trashcan.

I saw you are using the Tamron 28-300mm. How do you like the lens? How fast does it auto-focus? I am looking for a zoom lens that reaches 300mm to 400mm and have been a little discouraged by the slow focus of the Nikon 80-400mm.

Thanks, Jurgen. I love the Tamron lense. There are a couple of Tamrons with this focal range. Mine is the Tamron AF Aspherical XR UF 28-300mm 1:3. 5-6.3 Macro #62. I think mine has a little less plastic, but both are good lenses.

As for focus, I guess I don't have much to compare to, but this seems to focus very fast if the subject is clear. Sometimes on longer shots, it struggles trying to figure out your subject. (Night moon shots especially) I set to manual focus and set to infinity in that case. I have been very happy with it for the money.

Mark, that is a great capture. I have tried the moon with no luck. I like this one. Don.

Nice effect Mark, good catch.

Matt Hopson   {K:1351} 7/24/2005
Nice shot Mark.
A little moody. I think I hear Neal Young's "Harvest Moon" in the background

Maria Luisa Vial   {K:36017} 7/25/2005
Love it Mark... The moon seems to be resting in the top of the tree... Great composition and very well spotted...

Cheers,

MaLuisa

O_o! I went out to shoot the moon rising over the ocean the other night and couldn't get it right, may I ask what ISO you used? It looks like you captured it very well! :)

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 7/25/2005
Thanks, Brenda. I am still such a novice that I rarely adjust the ISO from the 200 that I usually have it set at. This is a case where I set the D70 at ISO 200 with nightime automatic mode and let it do the rest.

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 7/26/2005
Beautifully capture Mark..I love the clarity, and the tree silhouettes are wonderful. Very well done...:):)Linda

This one is well worth waiting for, Mark. Excellent night shot.
Thank you for your kind, detailed comment on my "Tami and Koshka."
Best regards,
Rafi
