About Subject background: Silhouettes at the sea... Like chess figures. The black side. Waiting for their turn. A repost of one of my first images here at UF. Thought it would be a good entry for the project

PS concept: The original slide has a rather bad quality. So I tried to get rid of the dirty look.

Best regards

Lukasz Kuczkowski   {K:14684} 7/23/2005
like strong contrast here; I am not sure about the horizon - I would prefer it was straight;
regards
Lukasz

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 7/23/2005
Hi Lukasz,

I thought long about the horizon, but ended up with the original image as the person on the left is straight (and wouldn't be, if I tilt the image) =)

thanks,
Thilo

Thilo- I love your work, the lighting, the figures, the black and white...and most of all the title...beautiful work

Maja Gligoric   {K:13402} 7/23/2005
Nice sky and silhouettes.
Sand have plastic look. Did you added some effect?

Regards

Tony Diana   {K:13396} 7/23/2005
Me ha encantado su imagen, un saludo

Carsten Ranke   {K:14453} 7/23/2005
Yes, truly black versus white ;-)
The super high contrast works well here, but I think about the horizon (I know you did that, too). Partly barrel distortion, and slight slant... I tried a slightly rotated debarrelized version, and I think a slight warp is ok on Amrum, he leans forward against the heavy wind ;-)

Kiarang Alaei   {K:48552} 7/23/2005
Adorable!

Kevin Collier   {K:19076} 7/23/2005
...what came to mind was the Cure song "Staring At The Sea" - wonderful light - I would not change a thing - K

Antonio Trincone   {K:23167} 7/23/2005
great silver looking quality, very very fascinating

Giorgio Goretti   {K:15471} 7/23/2005
great strong tones and a lot of atmosphere here
well done Thilo, congrats
Giorgio

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21809} 7/23/2005
HI Thilo, ich erinnere mich gut...hab damals schon über den Horizont nachgedacht....Die SW Version wirkt stark, sehr passend für das Projekt.
Einen schönen Sonntag,
Ursula

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 7/24/2005
Hi Maja,

no, the look is "real" ;-) No special FX here.

best wishes,
Thilo

Great

George Black   {K:101993} 7/24/2005
Very moody. The foreground turned out especially well with strong tonal contrast.

Cheers,

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 7/24/2005
Hi Thilo,
The high contrast takes a little getting used to. But I have no problem with the slanted horizon. Actually, I think it adds to the effect. Just a little quirky. But good quirky.
Andre

Angelo Villaschi   {K:49617} 7/24/2005
You know I have a soft spot for high contrast images...

This one's great! I love the highlights. Even on the computer, they make me squint my eyes.

Nice composition and I see what you mean about the chess pieces, Thilo.

Was that your friend you asked to stand in that odd position? :)

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 7/25/2005
This turned out nicely. Love the high contrast, and interesting title.

Perhaps a slight rotation counter clockwise? To me, this looks too tilted. But STILL a great
image.

Nice work,
Lori :)

Verena Rentrop   {K:14426} 7/25/2005

Verena

Maria Luisa Vial   {K:36017} 7/25/2005
Love this one Thilo... Excellent composition and very nice point of view... It creates a wonderful perspective... Yes, we are chess figures moving in a very sad world... Full of wars and lack of values... where only the fight for power lives... Hope one day we open ours eyes and cease to be pawns..

Cheers,

MaLuisa

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 7/25/2005
große klasse das, sehr dramatische stimmung, sehr starker bildaufbau mit dem abdruck unten rechts als i-tüpfelchen.

Hi Kev,

thx... sometimes the original should stay... great idea with the cure song.

Thilo

Gertrud Gozner   {K:14222} 7/25/2005
beautiful! I like the cloudy sky, the silhouettes and the lonely footprint... very moody composition!
congrats. G.

Todd Miller   {K:16464} 7/25/2005
great title and contrast...i think you made a good call on leaving the horizon tilted, and the pawn to the left standing straight. with such a vast landscape/seascape, it just looks like the curve of earth to me. very cool work.

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 7/26/2005
Hi Verena,

ja, die Pfütze ist schon schräg, aber so ist sie nun mal ;-) Ich hab da nix weiter dran gemacht.

LG,
Thilo
