Hm, I've just uploaded a bolt as well. Mine is much rustier. Yours is much more colourful. You also have a very strong composition with the yellow plate occupying the lower left. I like the pine needles(?) littering the ground but feel the stone maybe attracts attention away from the bolt. I like it though...

Two bolts today, completely different too. This was taken at the entrance of a forestry car park. Can only drive over the plates one way, bolted to the road.

I like this Nigel, but I think it could be better if the small rock at the end of the yellow area would be removed as it competes with the bolt head. Great exposure and detail. Nice comoposition. Don.

Thanks for your comments don, I'll have to pay another visit and re-take, try out a few other idea's to

Nigel,

This is a great abstract. It's well balanced, colourful, and simplistic. It has a good variety of textures. I really like it.

Cheers for your comments, Todd, you managed to escape from Wales then

Excellent abstract, Nigel.

I don't have many sugestions on this one. I like the composition making good use of the yellow and gray areas in good proportion to one another.

Perhaps after trying the "as you found it" capture, you could have attempted a clean-up and removed all the stones and other extraneous materials to leave just the bolt as the round shape.

David McClenaghan   {K:9481} 7/25/2005
Really great strong graphic image Nigel.
Brilliant composition.

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 7/25/2005
Nice idea, Nigel.
I'm with the majority on the stones, though, as they seem to distract the eye from the subject.
Kind regards, Chris

Carolyn Wiesbrock   {K:14051} 7/25/2005
Wonderful composition and an excellent abstract!

Toshi    {K:12024} 7/25/2005
Wonderful abstract, great colors and shapes. As others have mentioned, the removal of the dead leaves and rock would make this shot stand out more :)

Nigel Watts   {K:11045} 7/25/2005
Cheers for the comments, Toshi, I'm going back there.

Cheers Chris, took this, and the 'web', and 'wild flower' shot an the same evening, all in 100 meters of each other.

Nice photo of something ordinarily overlooked. I love shots like this. Nice color and texture. You have a really nice portfolio. You might be new to UseFilm, but not to a camera!
Thanks for you comment on Butterfly Bush at Night.

Nigel I have read all the comments, I really like the square composition adds to the impact. Great colours and detail. I have mexed feelings about the stone and the twigs I think they add more texture and make it interesting, but I also think it would produce a stronger image if everything around it was cleaned up. But a great composition
Margaret
DId you pick up on the UF meet in the Forum - Steve is trying to get final numbers ..

Nigel Watts   {K:11045} 7/27/2005
Thanks Margaret for your comments, I will be doing a re-think and re-take of this photograph at some point. Great learning idea. The UF meet, didn't know about, just reading

As this is not our first meeting on these pages, I would like to suggest that we switch to first names. I, as you know, am Rafi and unless you object, I'll refer to you henceforth as Nigel.
This another example of your taking a mundane object and by the composition and colors you captured turning it into a work of art.
Thank you for your kind comment on my "Light from within 5."
Best regards,
Rafi
