About If ever there were a photogenic peak then this is it. The Pic du Midi d'Ossau looms over the western Pyrenees and its face constantly changes with the movement of sun and clouds. I climbed up to the barrage (dam) on the Lac de Bious-Artigues one evening having spied out this possible view on an earlier walk. The sunlight had already left our campsite but the last red glow remained on the peak. I like the juxtaposition of the curved, regular shape of the barrage against the jagged wildness of the giant peak. I used a 2 stop soft ND grad to balance the exposure and an 81B warm-up filter to counter the blue tone that Velvia takes on in the last minutes of daylight.

Overall - extremely well done - like the dam recession into space. Let me know if you want me to remove the blue haze in the background.

It'll buff right out...

Thanks Michael, I seem to be one of the few people who actually quite like to blue haze - it indicates distance and gives a realistic feel of mountain light to me. But everyone else seems to think it ought to go. I must be weird!

Hi Barry - your photography goes from strength to strength. It's surely time to give up your day job! Wonderful images.

Barry Wakelin   {K:7838} 8/3/2005
Thanks Maureen. Not sure that photography would pay as well as the day job! Might provide a nice retirement income in twenty years time!

I like the light on the mountain. You did well with this one.

Wonderful picture, you've got the best from this view. The last warm ray of the sun give a warm pink colour to the rocks really enjoyable.

Congrats. Fabio
