Location City -  Bromo
State -  EAST JAVA
Country - Indonesia   Indonesia
About They are 'Tengger' people. The Tenggerese are an ethnic group inhabiting the highlands of East Java's Tengger mountain range, They live almost entirely from the cultivation of crops and embrace a Hindu/Buddhist religion.

The history back to Kingdom Majapahit. The queen of the Kingdom gave birth to a daughter named Roro AnTENG, who married Jaka SeGER a young man from the Brahmin Caste. These two were among those who fled eastward from Majapahit as the religion of Islam expanded in Java during the 15th century. Setting in the Tengger range Jaka Seger and Rara Anteng ruled the region jointly under the title Purbawisesa Mangkurat Ing Tengger. The word 'Tengger' itself is said to have been derived from a combination of the last syllables of the two rulers names: 'Teng' and 'Ger'. Another meaning of the word Tengger is 'Tenggering Budi Luhur', meaning eternal peace and high morality.

Beside cultivation of crops by day, manny of them also take advantage from many tourist coming there. so they offer service of renting horses or jeeps in the morning or night. Here they were 'racing' welcoming the tourists who were just arrived with jeeps and to offer rides to Bromo crater.

Thank you for the informative "about." Your photographs are strong enough to stand on their own, but the "about" is a fascinating source of background information. And the photograph itself is stunning!

Neal Nye   {K:15827} 8/6/2005
Interesting "about" but a beautiful picture. I like how dark it is. It makes them look really menacing. I'm glad they're not chasing me.

Cheryl Ogle   {K:24494} 8/7/2005
Cessy - that color is magnificent! What did you do? I am so amazed with this shot. Simply wonderful and then the about is wonderful and brings you right in. Well done.

cessy karina   {K:14205} 8/7/2005
Thanks Cheryl

I see that you use the same camera as mine, digital rebel XT (350D), so the setting was to use BW shade (the color temperature around 7000K, which make the color warmer), and also I used white balance correction [WBSHIFT/BKT] you find in the camera. this features changed the temperature also, like using color compensating filters. I used between magenta and amber, this just experimenting actually he he he ... and turned out the result make the color slightly what you see here.
Actually I used RAW which may help you change the WB in the software, but with experimenting like this, you can use straight result from camera (if you happy with the result):)

thanks,
cessy

is this the same race??

http://www.usefilm.com/image/869651.html

cessy karina   {K:14205} 8/9/2005
thanks Andrew, the same place, different moment :)
I think many people going to this bromo will saw this kind of 'race', and probably will take similar shots :)
As I mentioned in 'about' at my photo http://www.usefilm.com/image/875448.html, which was also in the same area, that there are many tourists there that is hard to get different angle of the photos. even you had already tried to be different, you may still have similar photo with others

thanks :)
cessy
