About *sigh* Well what can I say. Except that focusing in pitch black is hard. And the comp kinda blows. I just haven't got the whole lightening thing down yet.

Really love the bolt though.

Well...this is closer than i've ever gotten...mainly because ive never tired lol.

Umm, given that i've never tried it might seem weird to give advice, but here are my possible suggestions: use an aperature of f/10 or higher, then regardless of what point is focused, you will have more DOF which will increase focus througout the range.

Try using the bulb setting, to keep the shutter open for longer than 30 seconds. I am thinking that something like f/16 at 1-2 minutes might give greater results.

Also, search for the usefilmer Neil Dolman, and look for his shot Fill in Flash...he explains how he went about capturing a razor sharp shot a a single bolt of lightining,

Hope this helps,

Chris

Yup, lightning is really difficult, and I HAVE tried (though you have to go right back to the beginning of my portfolio to find it...). But I think you've done a pretty good job here.

Sorry Chris I forgot to mention that the shot was taken with the bulb setting. @ approx 28 seconds.

The next time I go out and shoot I am going to have my f-stop set @ 8~10 and just worry about catching actual stikes. I like to leave the shutter open to get ambient light from other strikes outside of the frame.

Thanks for the tips Chris,

Kris.

No probs Kris...I would say just for the hell of it, try a couple of shots at the smallest possible aperature f/22 or smaller. You will really have to open up the exposure time though...to prob. something like 2-3 minutes. You could end up with several bolts on one frame.

Nice lightning shot anyhow. Why not set your camera on manual focus and focus at infinity?

Good timing!!!

I just came to realize that... the shot is/was in focus. It was raining very heavy that is why it is out of focus.

I don't feel so incompetent now!

Thanks for all the great comments!

Kris.
