About The storks circle up over Tarifa and prepare to cross the Straits of Gibraltar, to spend the winter in Morocco.

I caught these guys from my terrace this afternoon. Hope they made it. The levante has eased off so they stand a good chance. But the birds of prey were hovering below, waiting for the weaker ones to fall...

Just wondering, did you up the contrast in photoshop for this?

I like the the lack of center of interest, and the shear number of birds makes for an intersting picture.

AJ Miller   {K:46155} 8/17/2005
Thanks for your comment, Dylan. The birds tend to circle up around midday, so capturing the colours is quite tough. I therefore decided to convert to B&W and push up the threshold using PSP9.

Terrific John, minimalist in colour and subject matter yet full of life ad movement. The birds make a random pattern in the frame which could hardly be better if you had cut and pasted them all yourself! Makes a great abstract and also a graphic study of the storks in flight.

Wonderful shot, very simple but effective photograph

I'm glad you responded on one of my other photos, because after that I went to your portfolio. Quite the collection!

I'll have to experiment with the whole drops thing. I also liked the pencil shavings.

I'll try out your suggestion on posting times as well.

Thanks.

What a nice Silhouettes and Abstracts shot..
Really strange one, and did the best by removing the blue color of the sky..
Well done, nice job...

George Black   {K:101993} 8/18/2005
This is surprisingly effective after seeing the thumbnail. What makes it work is the clearly defined shapes of the individual birds. Good idea, the b/w conversion.

Best regards,
--George

I have looked for a photo of birds that was as compelling as yours and have not found one... untill now. This is wonderful.

Marilyn Nagy   {K:6008} 9/5/2005
John, This is an excellent capture. I am a bird lover and my favorite bird is called the magnificent frigrate that comes to Florida from the Dry Torgugas. This reminds me of the day I saw flocks of them soaring high but they were too far away to capture. This is wonderful. Interesting about as well. Thanks for your comment on my "lagoon" photo. Marilyn
