About Other photos of this place are in my portfoilio from the same day.... some cool optical visions that day last November.
Presently it may all be up in smoke as lightning sparked a fire almost a month ago. It has grown to about 9,000 acres and is 20% contained....... all roads and trails are closed.
Guess I will need to update my portfolio when they open the roads in a month or so.

I like this landscape and hope you recognize this spot the next time you visit. Show us the after fire view. Hopefully this place is spared.

Cheers - Bill

I will do that. Tho most folks don't know of this location, it is the best viewpoint in this the area..... Never seen anything close to it. I guess there will be photographic beauty after the fire, but never will be the same.
Thanks for the comment Bill I love your tree photos.

Wonderful landscape... Great detail and colors...very nice Background. Well done.
Regards, Merwyn.

Thanks Merwyn, all that location lacks is a pretty model. ;)

Bill, at this late date, the fire has been 'contained' for quite some time. They have been doing mop up, and cleaning up the 'damage' that was made during the fire..... Being a wilderness area, I suppose they try to eliminate evidence of fire trails and human activity to some extent.
Tho we have had cooler temperatures and some rain, the trail is still not open, tho the road leading to it is.
I will repost when I have a chance to revisit the viewpoint.

Bill, I still have not made it up there to see the fire damage. Winter rains took out a large portion of the roadway about 20 miles from this place.......... and it's a very long detour to go another route to get there.............. probably an additional 120 miles.
I will posta an update when I am able to.

Randy, thanks for the update. I hope you find a way to this beautiful site again sometime in the future. All the best.

Mike, the US and local forest service keep good public relations when forest fires are burning.

It will be interesting to see the aftermath of the fire.............. I will look at the glass as half enpty for now.

Starting later tonight, (3/9), some late winter storms have dropped the snow level way below this location by a long ways...... so it will still be quite a while before I can return to Hanging Rock.
...... yes, it's a beautiful, and one of a kind place. Views of the Cascade mountain peaks a couple hundred miles away, or just the cliff swallows near by are a real treat. Not a popular place either, so I usualy have it 100% to myself.... or share it with who ever I bring there.

Bill..... this is for you.

I have a long overdue update to the fire damage.......... Over a year since I took the original photos at Hanging Rock.

Here is a photo to compare to the hills behind the "glory" photo. This area got hit pretty bad, but since there is a lot of rock on the hills, it really doesn't look too bad.
Most of the Hanging rock trees were spared. The fire started near the hippy on the rock photo........ but most of the fire went away from the cliff. I was happy to see the place, a little rough around the edges, but pretty much in tact.

...Anyhow, here's a photo you can compare to the "Glory" photo. look at the 3 peaks to the upper left for comparison.
