Hi Jake, The setup was pretty straight forward. A white curved background, ambi-light and a flash with diffuser hood. The settings are all there in the about in this image. Just let me know if you need more info...:)

Hi Pat, interesting thought. Not sure if it would've worked, as it would reduce the bubbles to a bigger blur and would've lowered the already pretty soft flow of the Gingerale.
In stead of a ND4 filter, I could've also reduce the apperture by 2 stops, or do you think a ND4 filter would've created a different effect?
Your comment does make me think if a PL filter could've worked; the reflection of the flash does nag me a bit here.

Another excellent piece for the project. I can't help with technical suggestions...I'll have to leave that to the big boys. *grin* But I can tell you that it's a delight to view, on every artistic level. Am eagerly looking forward to the next installation.

I thought the longer exposure would accentuate the fluid movment. Yes, stopping down would have the same effect. I do like the bubbles.

Thanks, Ursula. I never print with frame, as the edge of the paper will do in most cases. But on the internet, and especially showing it on a white page, I thought it needed a frame / thin line, as the flow of Ginger Ale would've been coming from the void rather harshly, and the reflection of the glass would've had a rather crude cut too. Either way, I did feel ambiguous about it too.

Hi Pat, you've got a good point there. I did shoot a few with a longer shutterspeed (smaller aperture) but wasn't too happy with those results, mainly because the texture of the background became too strong. If I reshoot this one, I'll have to use a smoother background. Another reason was that I struggled with the hues. The ginger ale looked like piss....:)

Well, you've done it again.
Conceived the idea, and accomplished it.
Very nice photograph. Captured the movement perfectly, and with great detail and clarity.
And creativity.
I sense the glass of strawberries is left 'weighted', therefore the way in which you have this presented is excellent. Some optical illusion going on here? Or is that glass a 'tad' (just a 'tad' mind you!) counter cw?

Hi Lori, Good call! I discussed the tilt at length with Tom Rumland. I did check on any tilt, but the problem is that the glass is hand made, and slightly crooked. Besides, it's slightly tapered, so measuring a vertical won't do any good. Yet I do agree it's slightly tilted ccw.
Weighted as in PS upping the contrasts of the glass? yeah. slightly. Other than that, I did play with the tones of the strawberry and the stream of Ginger Ale. Also had to remove some textures and spilled liquid from surface / background.

this is a tough one.. hard to capture these correctly.. in advertising they usually use fake food and other techniques to look real...you did a great job with this one for sure.. love the colors... excellent work...

Neat shot!!! Good colors, clarity and composition... well done!!! A couple of little things: you forgot to clone out a small (grey) spot in the top left corner, the glass you've used is a bit crooked/bent to the left so a different one next time and instead of Ginger Ale... use Tonic water or Spa.... so you don't have a piss-like/brownish color to start with, which you then have to change/adjust the color... just a few ideas.... ;-D!!! Oh yes and wait until there's some fluid in the glass before you take the shot... so you get some other textures/view/floating strawberries... ???

I was wondering why you didn't crop out the bottom of the image to have the glass resting on the frame? Was it to give the effect of the glass "floating"? I like this series of images, the motion in this one with the splash of the ginger ale against the glass. I can also hear the sound of the liquid spilling into it. I like the mostly colorless look of this with just splash of color-a very effective touch when used like this. Nicely done Hugo, waiting for the next~

Ginger Ale...my favourite...wherever Ginger is in can make me...mmmmh....
the colour of the strawberries is not the one I would expect...a bit too orange? is it the glass or is it my monitor...

Flash syncronizing on the rear slow curtain is a little dimonstration of a huge knowledge in photogrphy matter even is we know how you are skilled in.
In every shot you share with us we can learn a lot day per day.
in this one you teach us how to manage and to control fluid dinamics in photography by using artificial lights also in variation of exposure values.
A taste of a big photographics technique embedded in a drink...really superb.... as usual...
