About This past Sunday at Del Mar's Pacific Classic. A dear friend treated me to her husband's seat when he couldn't make it. I haven't been to the races in years. While she is an avid fan and spent her time pouring over the stats and placing bets, I am rather clueless (Me: "Look --they are going to run on the grass this time!" Her: "That's called turf.") For me, the experience was a feast for my camera. This is the first in a series of my pics of the day. I am not sure which project -- any ideas?

Nour El Refai   {K:13778} 8/23/2005
perfect, really a perfect speed shot
it shows speed in an excellent way, and yet the part that should be focused is very well in focus, it is so difficult to manage in that excellent way 7+++

Arturs Daukulis   {K:1310} 8/23/2005
ammazing photo!!! The horses seems to bee so fast that even the shutter 1/1000 couldnot "stop" them :)
Best regards!
Arturs

Nour El Refai   {K:13778} 8/23/2005

Wonderful Image Antonia, I'm glad to see your picture again. I had a week for a travel.

Andre Denis   {K:55208} 8/23/2005
Hi Toni,
A great action shot! You knew enough about racing to portray the speed excitement and action. Like you said, all sports are a feast for cameras.

There is no question on the project. A little different concept than the Chess photo, but for anyone that knows racing... it's got to be "The Decisive Moment" :)

Andre

Gust@vo Sch3v3rin   {K:115879} 8/23/2005
Excelente captura, gran momento.
Felicitaciones!

Randy Lorance   {K:24958} 8/23/2005
Wow, you have really caught this well. The contrast, blur, and noise add to the impact. Well done.

Randy

Paolo De Maio   {K:34166} 8/24/2005

Great capture Antonia! Congratulations! 7++

Judi Liosatos   {K:34029} 8/24/2005
Fantstic panning movement. Excellent work Antonia. I live in a street with a racecourse at one end and a school at the other. Never a dull moment and on Saturdays we sit in our house listening to the race calls.

Judi

cessy karina   {K:14205} 8/24/2005
wow !! very nice panning shot
excellent capture of the race, at perfect timing
I prefer maybe more space on the top

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 8/24/2005
Thanks Cessy. I would have liked a little more space, but this was taken through the fence and a white bar is all that would have been above the jockie's heads...cropped it out. Antonia

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 8/24/2005
Oh my goodness! Lots of bustle around you then...the traffic coming out of the track was maddening! So you get it from both ends...lol (not really funny huh...). We live on a street that is indirect access to the freeways (people take it as an alternate route to avoid the main drag), and they all like to go 50 mph! Hate it. Thanks Judi. Antonia

Andre Denis   {K:55208} 8/24/2005
Congrats on the BIP Toni!
I must say I told you so!

Andre

cessy karina   {K:14205} 8/24/2005
congrats with the BIP, Antonia
you are very well deserved :)

Mort Gage   {K:2740} 8/24/2005
i think this is tremendous! congrats on well deserved BIP!

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 8/24/2005
Now this is one time I don't mind someone saying "I told you so!" I am glad you suggested it Andre, and also that I followed it. Thanks a bunch!!! ;) Antonia

Andre Denis   {K:55208} 8/24/2005
No problem Toni,

You took the great shot!

I thought it fit the project perfectly because there is a certain instant in a race like that when everyone is on the edge of their seats and the eventual winner makes their move. The shot might have been out of this context, (you might have taken this at the start for all we know) but no one has to know that. It still fits the project perfectly. You could have even titled it "#8 Breaks Away" or something like that.

Andre

Mitchell Miller   {K:3016} 8/25/2005
great capture!!! congrats!!!

Bresson never left the house without the trusted leica. Likewise Miss Antonia takes her nikon on creative adventures in her latest outings ? and both animal related!
First the doggy show and now the horsy show!!! COINCIDENCE?...Or methodical approach to picture taking?

Not much of a poodle guy I may have missed the merit of the previous post but this here is something else. Horses? I love the beautiful creatures ? and this is an excellent shot of a gorgeous animal ? terrific testosteronic power here! ( yes, it could be a girl, but if ?feels? very male). The impressive shot becomes even more excelentissimo as you chose to crop it in this manner. It?s great to work on fine pictures, but even ?average? pictures benefit from judicious choices in cropping. But #8 is fine fine fine right from the starting bell. And the title?s perfect - the ONLY possible title!

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 8/25/2005
So glad to grab your interest like this Carlos. Nothing methodical about my planning re the locations -- truly happenstance for me. Now I'm not a poodle fan in the least, but am a fan of unusual sights, and that dog sure grabbed my attention when I walked past...lol. As for taking my camera along, it is near impossible for me to leave it at home, and whether or not it is with me, I'm busy framing pics in my mind. Recently visited the Greek Theatre for a concert without my camera, and so resorted to shooting a bunch with my cell phone!!! (Perhaps there will be a post from that when I can figure out how to download...lol). Thanks for all C. Antonia

Mohamed Banna   {K:34204} 8/25/2005
happy that my second comment is CONGRATUALTIONS FOR THE BIP

wow awesome capture antonia!

cheers,

Carsten Ranke   {K:14453} 9/10/2005
What makes this photo successfull is the space you left free in the horses? running direction, IMO. Perfect balance of frozen detail and motion blur. Maybe I would have tried out a more panoramic format with a sacrifice @ the bottom.
Cheers
Carsten

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 9/10/2005
Thanks Carsten. As a matter of fact, I did try that out and have the other version on my hard drive. I did it after putting this up, and it had already won the BIP, so I didn't know what to do with it...lol. I'll put it up! Antonia

Fadel J   {K:13479} 9/15/2005
Fabulous shot Antonia! full of motion while the first horse is frozen in time! Award definitely very well deserved!

mundh    {K:3974} 9/25/2005
wow what an excelent catch

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 12/21/2005
Hi Antonio, So I lied. I've narrowed it down to three, as I couldn't let this one escape without sharing a few of my thoughts. The speed and dynamism is extremely strong in this one, and I do think the composition is spot on, too, quite extreme on the left, but with the needed open space on the right. Top notch shot.

Cheers,

hugo

ISMAEL MARCOS   {K:10340} 2/8/2006

Golboo Fiuzy   {K:2347} 6/11/2006
Could you please let me to use this image of yours as a sport photograph sample?

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:29943} 6/12/2006
Golboo, It would be helpful to know a bit more about your intended use before giving Permission. If you are asking to use this for educational purposes and not for profit (resale) or any commercial purpose, it is o.k. for me. Are you teaching? Antonia

Golboo Fiuzy   {K:2347} 6/12/2006
I'm staff of photograph unit in "Agahfilm" website. And I desided to hold a sport photography galery in this site.
So please tell me if you agree to use your photo.
Thanks a lot
Golboo Fiuzy
