These cars are sweet I wish i had one. Wouldn't it be easier to put this on a table to work on. My boys would have it on the coffee table in the living room. Good shot Andre forgive my jesting.

Hi Andre,
wow, this shot was made around my birth. It looks rather fresh despite it's age ;-)
for me, this car has a face. the tires part is a bit bold, but I love that look of the pictures anyway.
good work!
best wishes, Thilo

Hi Ellen, These cars bring smiles to everyones face. What makes this even more humorous is the race driver of this car, (man working at front) was about 6'3" tall. The Mini Cooper "S" set up in racing trim, and driven by a competent driver is unbelieveably fast on a road course. They were always a crowd favourite for obvious reasons. They would make fools out of cars with three times their horsepower that cost five times as much. I used to own two of the tamer street versions. My first car was a 1962 Mini. I also owned a 1979 version. The latest Minis are only the same in name, but still great cars. Lots of people still race these cars in club races. There is a very famouse scene in the original movie of "The Italian Job" where they use three of them as get-a-way cars in a big robbery. The new Minis were used in the re-make of the movie a couple of years ago. I could go on forever about these things. :)

Hi Thilo, Good to see you back. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by the image quality from old scanned slides. I managed to fix this one up in PS, not too bad. Some are very faded and need more work than it is worth. This one only had a few hair squiggles that I had to get rid of. For an explanation on the car, read the comment reply that I wrote to Ellen above this one.

No no go on we share the same heart. I too saw the original Italian Job and I've been a nut ever since. The new movie was good BUT it was nothing like the older version. I have bought school buses in hopes that one day I would have a small car that I could carry in the back while I travel. The sad thing is I have enjoyed life so much I would need one for each foot. lol Oh it's good to dream....I could go on....

Oh Gosh...I meant to comment on this the night it was put up because I loved the thumbnail! Something nabbed me away...but I'm here now. It just cracks me up how small that car is. Are you sure that's not supposed to be Mouseport Park? Great colors! Like it a lot. Antonia

Toni,
Like I said before, you can't help smiling at these cars. Some of the guys would mount a big, fake, wind-up-key on the back trunk when racing them just for laughs.

Hi Gregory, It always amazes me how these guys can race a car for a five lap race and then they have to take it apart for three hours and put it back together again for another five lap race. And, they love it!! Too much like work for me :) Andre

Fadel, The shot of my brother on top of the Mini (attached to Ellen) was scanned from a small snap-shot. So, the quality is poor. Maybe one day I will find the 2 1/4 negative and try scanning that. Andre

Hi Mark, And this one looks even smaller because the guy working on it is about 6'6" :) I think the new ones are pretty good. I owned two old ones... a 62 850cc model and 79 mini 1000 model. My first car was a $200.00 Mini. Andre

6-6, no wonder. The new ones sure are pretty. BMW makes them I think, or they at least own Cooper? Who knows, maybe we'll be seeing them get smaller with the scarcity of oil. Toyota did their own version of the Mini Cooper, did you see them?

Hi Mark, A lot of people claim that driving small cars is dangerous. But, if we all drove small cars, would they still be dangerous? I'm not sure which Toyota you are refering to. Their new Yaris looks like a great little starter car though. It is a variation of the Echo. My first new car was a Toyota back in 1969. I bought a Toyota Sprinter fastback coupe for $2120. Dark green with an 1100cc sewing machine engine in it. Andre

Hi again Mark, The current Mini Coopers have nothing at all in commen with the old British versions except cosmetics. They are built and sold by BMW as you said. Andre

Hi Andre :) That toyota that I mentioned that looked like a mini cooper is unmistakeably an attempt to snag part of the sales from cooper. I don't remember the name, but it sure looks like a cooper. I'm sure they call it by other names, probably Yaris (?) or one of the Scion lines. Never heard of a Toyota Sprinter. I love the old body styles, even the first Datsun Z cars. I love little cars period! Must look up Sprinter :)
