Stunning location! In a couple of months, I'll be moving back to Greece for good... I will make a point of actually visiting this place. It looks awesome. Wonderful job with your photograph :-)

This is really beautiful Mary!!! A teriffic scene!I like the low overhanging clouds and the shadows on the water! The lighting of the foreground trees is nice. I really like the sandy shoreline and how it outlines every island and nook! Super job Mary! My best......................John

We started a new personal "project" of visiting Greek lakes, and this one was a revelation!! You cannot imagine the beauty of the area, the photo is poor as compared to this magnificent place... The villages around are picturesque and the lake is the cleanest I have seen. It is artificial, made in 1953 and it is huge, it takes two hours to drive around it. Thank you dear!

Petros Stamatakos   {K:11721} 8/24/2005
Your project is an interesting concept. How was the idea born? Did lakes always interest you?

I remember as a child when I used to visit my uncle, he used to take me to a lake called "Likeri" to fish. I never became a good fisherman, but I have some fond memories at this place...

Be well :-)

Mary Vareli   {K:15816} 8/24/2005
This artificial lake (named Tavropos after the river which ?created? it ) is 80 km away from Trikala and is lying at an elevation of 1,000 m. The name "Nikolaos Plastiras was given in honour of the general and politician N. Plastiras who conceived the idea of building a dam in 1925. The idea became a reality in (1953/)1959. Actually the lake supplies Thessaly with electric power and water (The Greek Public Power Corporation is behind the project). The villages around are: Mesenikolas, Morfovouni, Kerasia, Kryoneri, Phylakti, Pezoula, Neochori, Belokomitis, Karitsa, Karoplesi, Kastania, Lambero, Moschato, Karvasaras. In ancient times Thessaly was a sea, so allow me to believe the place came back to a watery original condition. 20 or so people lost their lives as the lake was created before the creation of a road, so at the beginning people had to be carried to the other shore by boat. I love lakes as they are more fairytale ?and yes rivers and lakes have always interested Tolis and me as we consider them sacred. Do you ?remember? the water nymphs??
