Wonderful capture. Love the blues and the "sparkle" trailing behind each dolphin.

Wow David! Absolutely beautiful! Up there with Kelly Balcom's work for me... and that's saying something, as I've been in love with Kelly's work since I was 9! :)

Kay McIntire   {K:11787} 8/25/2005
AWESOME!! Were you scuba diving top get the dolphins at that angle? Or is this through a glass at an amusement park? I would sure love to run into a pod like this while diving. Just beautiful- could be a great desktop photo, card, or poster!

Hi Kay,

I was just snorkeling here (scuba gear wasn't allowed), but they were so close and stayed close to the surface anyway. Each time I did it, it was a magical moment.

Thanks a lot Klifton, I happen to meet and work with her father 10 years ago on the Bahamas. He's an awesome guy.

Kay McIntire   {K:11787} 8/25/2005
Where was this at? Your view from snorkeling was awesome too- looks like you were able to get pretty deep just skin diving anyway. Are you a diver?

David Hofmann   {K:23830} 8/25/2005
thanks Gustavo, it is a photos, but a lot of extra work in Photoshop

Lynne Stacey   {K:649} 8/25/2005

You mean his father? Kelly = dude. ;) He used to run Whalesong Gallery on San Juan island, Washington at Friday Harbor... One of the best (probably the best) Orca photographer ever! His knowledge of the area and of the Orca's is absolutely amazing! I really wish I had an autographed photo of his now... I thought I'd be able to find one online, but haven't been successful yet. I need to talk Kathy H. into going there for me. :)

Yes I'm a diver, too. For this shot I was just under the surface. It looks very deep as I was pointing the camera down a lillte.
There are many good sports for underwater dolphin photos. I think the best place is The Bahamas since the water is shallow and the white sand reflects light. The spotted dolphins that live there are very friendly and like to play with humands. OTOH there are many boats with people who all want to swim with them.

This shot is from the Azores. It is actually more known for being a great spot for seeing whales. but there are dolphins, too :)

Great capture David, love the sparkling water trail behind the dilphins, well done.
Cheers Al.

wow! tremendous photo...tremendous edits! i think the "glowing" bubbles with the title (dreaming...) is spot on. i think this would make for a great poster on your kids' walls!

Oh, how incredibly gorgeous.
It looks so serene. I would love to have a copy of that.
Oh, and about your other work: You capture the magic in your kids' eyes. I have been admiring your work for the past hour or so. You know how to capture the best in life.

David...

I love this photo very much! I have a question. Would a polarizer have helped or hurt the shot? I'm looking to try the same. Thanks.

David Hofmann   {K:23830} 1/25/2006
Hi Tom,

thanka for the comment. I'm not sure if a polarizer would make any sense under water. I wouldn't use one simply because it takes away too much light which is dim under water already.
