I really liked how the photograph is darker at the border. Are these because of the use of the spotlight dark filter? Is this a digital filter or one that you put on the lens? I have been trying to get this effect in Photoshop.

The "darker at the border" effect is called vignetting, and can occur frequently with small lenses, such as those of a compact digital camera, especially at low f/stops. Larger very fast lenses sometimes show this effect at their widest apertures, as well. There are other ways this can result, such as stacking too many filters, and the effect can also be added digitally. However, given that this an indoor picture that would neccesitate a wide aperture, and the camera is a small digital model, this vignetting probably results from the inherent properties of the lens.
