About My standard low-end macro setup including my homemade flash 'guide'. It looks a bit better then the simple, shadowless frontal flash.
It's fascinating how inteligent ants can be. The cows may be yellow, 1mm long and producing sweet juice, not milk, but it's still farming :)

Hi, Domjan,
this is a great caprute of an amazing relationship in the natural world! And, I just love the horny little things on the backs of those 'cows' :-)
Thank you for the tip to use a reversed lens for macro pictures. I'm already planning to get one, indeed. Anyway, besides the technical side, your pictures have a remarkable meaningful side to them - as the witty title of this one shows.
Best regards,
Denitsa

Domjan, could you please explain a bit more about your "homemade flash 'guide' "? I hate my in-built flash, and I'm not quite sure what can I do about it. Thanks in advance!
Denitsa

My flash guide is a very simple, about 3cm wide and about 6cm long tube with the inside covered with a aluminum foil to make it more reflective (think: optical fiber). You live a bit of foil sticking out on the end so you could deform it a bit to bend the light. That way a flash can illuminate the subject partly from a side and more importantly go around the large macro lens. You can also use a bit of paper for a more difuse lighting (as I have done). It works quite well. Most of my macros are taken with this setup.
Hope this helps!

Thank you very much, Domjan! Excellent advice! I'll try it as soon as I can. This is an invaluable tip, thanks once again. It's so good when to find someone who has already solved these problems - great!
Best regards,
Denitsa

Great macro!
You have great tools for macros! They are incredible! First, I thought you have an eos with some expensive lens, but you don't!?

Hii,beautiful...

Domjan Svilkovic   {K:3104} 8/30/2005
Thanks Vasile! Actualy, I think it's much harder to get a good super-macro performance from dSLR system due to larger CCD size and therefore a extremely narrow DOF.

Vasile Florin   {K:3000} 8/30/2005
Yes, I heard something about dSLR and super macros. Anyway, you have GREAT tools and great results! I'd like to have one setup like your's too.

Fantastic!!. I'm glad to see you are back, I'd almost given up on you my macro friend.
