Way 2 go,Linda! thanks for your comment to me,too..still waiting for the help notice to be posted on the frontpage...am baffled as to why it isn't there yet? maybe server problems...?
now, this is a very striking rose image...i like the placement with that diagonal, but i especially think the light casting subtle shadows makes this one stand out...i like that the rose is more closed than full out and the clarity is very good...UF was offline for hours earlier,so just getting to comments ...take care,lady...regards,gayle

Beautiful photo, Linda, and such a worthy plea in your about! I love the way the light has picked up the delicate folds and contours of the perfect rose and contrasts it so nicely against the rocks. The vignetting is a perfect added touch, focusing the attention even more on the flower, and adding an appropriate touch of sadness as well. Nicely done, mi amiga!!

This is beautiful Linda, Simplistic beauty at its finest, I love the lighting and shadows not often seen in florals, the soft detailed red rose is perfect against the nice texture of the background, nice DOF.. You all are going to have to forgive me on the Red Cross thing, I had just won a photo contest with a birding magazing which had a first prize of a canon 1Ds MKII or a Nikon D2X, and after they notified me talked me well almost forced me to donate that to there relief fund, so I figure 7k is enough, I did get my $15 entry fee back :).. Take care, Marcus..

Something beautiful dropped, left behind and forgotten. Magnificent lighting catching the soft velvety texture of the petals and the almost smooth worn look of the rocks. The slight vignetting was an excellent touch and really focuses on the deep rich red of the rose.

Sorry for this really long post but for anyone interested these are the stats currently telling exactly what the RED CROSS has done so far in assisting the hurricane victims...every little bit helps..:):)
National Headquarters 2025 E Street, N.W. Washington, DC 20006 www.redcross.org

WASHINGTON, Saturday, September 03, 2005 ? The American Red Cross has launched an immense emergency relief effort to meet unprecedented humanitarian needs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
PHOTOGRAPHS
View American Red Cross photos from Mississippi and the Houston Astrodome.
In times of disaster, the American Red Cross immediately mobilizes workers and supplies to address the urgent, critical needs of disaster victims, which include providing emergency shelter, food, water, counseling and other assistance. The Red Cross response to Hurricane Katrina is the largest response to a single, natural disaster in the 125-year history of the organization.
Fast Facts (As of 11:00 a.m., Sept 2)
Red Cross Mass Care: Shelters ? 284 American Red Cross shelters are open in 9 states: Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri and Georgia, with many more on standby.
Evacuees ? More than 94,300 evacuees are being sheltered.
Emergency Vehicles ? Nearly 240 Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) are now in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, with additional ERVs en route to the affected area. The Red Cross is working to engage additional vehicles for food distribution to survivors.
Relief Workers ? Thousands of Red Cross staff and volunteers across the country and from every part of the organization are working around the clock to serve the public need. More than 3,300 Red Crossers have left their families to serve in affected areas already, and the Red Cross is moving more than 600 additional workers into affected areas every day.
Feeding ? The Red Cross is working closely with several partners, including the Southern Baptist Convention, the Adventists and Second Harvest to provide emergency food to survivors and responders. In coordination with the Southern Baptists, preparations are underway to serve nearly 500,000 hot meals each day.
More than 309,000 meals have been served in the last 24 hours. Houston Astrodome Shelter ? The Red Cross is supporting government officials in the relocation and sheltering of more than 23,000 hurricane survivors traveling over 300 miles from New Orleans to Houston.
In Dallas-Ft. Worth and San Antonio, the Red Cross and local partners are working to find dozens of facilities in which thousands of evacuees will find a safe, clean and comfortable environment.
Health & Preventative Care ? The Red Cross is working with government and health services partners to develop health strategies and preventative measures to help the public and relief workers cope with the serious public health emergency. Note: Media is encouraged to contact their local Red Cross chapter to learn how it is responding to the disaster.
Reuniting Families: The Red Cross, with support of the worldwide Red Cross Movement, has launched a Web site and hotline to help reunite loved ones.
Online ? Persons looking for loved ones can go to www.redcross.org and click on ?Family Links Registry? to register yourself, a missing relative or view the existing list of registrants.
Hotline ? Those who do not have Internet access should call toll-free 1-877-LOVED-1S (1-877-568-3317). How to Help:
Due to the generosity of the American people, the American Red Cross stands ready to meet the monumental challenge of helping to rebuild lives. Funds Received to Date ? The American Red Cross estimates that, as of September 1, 2005, it has received $196.9 million in gifts and pledges for the hurricane relief effort.
To Donate ? Call 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O.
