Ina - THAT is an incredibly nice shot - tactile textures and gradations of the wood and metal and paint combine to make your capture irresistable in every way. I also love the liminous exposure.

Fabulous and very well done indeed :)

Muy interesante perspectiva alternativa. Me gusta el encuadre...eso sí, yo la abría titulado: "5771"..:-)
Felicitaciones!

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/8/2005
Thanks Gust@vo for your nice comments! I could title it "5771" but I have more than one picture with this railcar No. 5771, it's one of a series. I was visiting Death Valley and found a great site with old train cars, old farm machinery, etc. in California. I could have stayed there hours and hours. I love all things with "patina." Thanks for your kind attention.

A mi me encantan las fotos de maquinarias viejas e hierros oxidados...te invito a ver mi serie "oxido" en mi portafolios.

Un abrazo!

I absolutely know what you mean by "patina" Ina. That Leica lens of yours captured it all :)

Anthony Lound   {K:2596} 9/8/2005
BTW - that was a slow shutter speed for the crispness you got - did you use a tripod?

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/8/2005
Hi Anthony, This was handheld, as most of my shots are, even for wildlife at 300mm +. I'm an ex-Minolta SLR user, present-day Canon DRebel user, but my Canon died on this trip and I always carry a Panasonic FZ-10 fixed lens back-up. It has image stabilization :-) which really helps!

Anthony Lound   {K:2596} 9/8/2005
I see! I cld tell u were an accomplished photographer straightaway! I'd normally pooh pooh image stabilization and whatnot, but in this case I'll eat my hat. 5771 is now on my favourites list and it was so easy to add it :)

oh...get OUT! This is outstanding, Ina.
Oh, and welcome to Usefilm.
Ya know, if you JOINED (hint)..you could post this wonderful series much sooner, and I wouldn't be dying of antici...

..pation.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/8/2005
Thanks Paul. I'm considering becoming a donor, but I'm already a "donor" at a number of sites, LOL. I'll see... Usefilm is great, though. Such instant gratification, I mean, where else can you get that?
I'm also eyeing a 20D... Congrats on your winning that prize.

Alex Teller   {K:8286} 9/9/2005
Ina, what a superb picture, but then that is your style, one is better that the others and so it goes on and on.
But this is one is just beyond anything imaginable, an absolute masterpiece!
A humbling experience...crisp and fresh, how real...
Alex

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/9/2005
Thanks again, Alex. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the compliments, I have tens of thousands of pictures, don't know what to put up here - one a day. It's nice to get such great feedback. Very much appreciated!

Uri Lidsky   {K:4932} 9/10/2005

Ina, you inspired me to experiment. I've run out of upload time, but this is a preview hehe...

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/11/2005
That is excellent! I love it!

Anthony Lound   {K:2596} 9/11/2005
TY - I was hoping you wld like it. The RAW is awesome :) Thank you for inspiring me - I always knew "patina" appealed hehe.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/11/2005
Thanks Anthony - I'm very happy that I've inspired you with all these oldies. There's a lot of good textures in that one. That's in RAW, eh? As my Canon's being repaired as we speak, I'm tweaking my 4MP jpegs from the FZ-10. Not much room to play here...

Anthony Lound   {K:2596} 9/11/2005
Ina - nooo that was a tiny jpeg for the purposes of previewing it to you in this comment area - the RAW image is 5Mb and spectacularly detailed. Still, even theis little jpeg conveys a lot of the original RAW. I love RAW because one can do anything with it in processing as it's just exactly what comes off cam w/o any processing whatsoever.

Tabitha Woods   {K:8480} 9/11/2005
Great detail, tones, composition, did you add more saturation in ps also?
Regards :O)

Endre Novak   {K:12549} 9/11/2005

Thanks Kathy, I wasn't aware of it :)

György Szönyi   {K:8347} 10/10/2005
Hi Ina, a good number on a fantastic texture and meaningful bolts. Congratulations to your featured critique, too: Gyorgy

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 10/10/2005
Thanks for the compliments, I feel I don't deserve all this attention :)

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 11/12/2005
The texture is so well rendered. Beautiful lighting, too.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 11/12/2005
I have no idea why this one generated so many comments, but I won't complain :)

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 11/12/2005
Probably because it's about railroads; symbolic of going someplace better and the open road, open spaces, America!
