About What can I say I'm into moody these days. This is another favorite scene of mine, it's a hotel complex and I just love the way it sits there on the edge of the island overlooking the water...today we are having cloudy stormy weather and I got this picture, added a grad filter and still playing with vignettes...hope you like it too..

Thank you Inji and Gennaro for your comments, this looked soft when I uploaded it so I took it off and sharpened it some more....:):)

Alison DuFlon   {K:36165} 9/9/2005
A great view of a beautiful place. The rosy colors around the hotel are great, and the overall effect mysterious. Alison

Gregory McLemore   {K:25301} 9/9/2005
Wow, a magical simplistic beauty, wonderful display.

Bradley Prue   {K:30312} 9/9/2005
Wow....Linda, you nailed it! You have complimented the somber mood and dark tones perfectly with the vignetting. Almost as though we are peeking through darkness, or time, to see something that is resting peacefully. The brown/gray tone of the sky plays to the rich aqua tones with grace. The waters look so quiet and deep, and the hotel, like an oasis in the sea of solitude. You really did a wonderful job of creating a feeling, here. And from a technical perspective, the building, the sky and the water are contrasted in tasteful proportions. I've been away a while, and I'm sorry that I haven't been able to see all of your wonderful work. It is both artistic and soothing. LOVE IT. ..Brad

Dave Stacey   {K:117108} 9/9/2005
It is indeed a moody and atmospheric image, Linda! I like the way you've done the vignette to draw us to the point where the buildings are.
Dave.

Cheers
Rina

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 9/10/2005

...:):)Linda

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 9/10/2005
hi there, first off i was struck by the neutral palette...taupe,umber,olive and deep brown...then i saw it as a slightly abstract landscape because of the limited shapes/colors...your vignetting puts a nice focus on the hotel and the off-center position of the hotel creates a strong focus as well...nice balance and proportion,Linda...very good work!...regards,gayle

waleed montasser   {K:2569} 9/10/2005

Dirck DuFlon   {K:35779} 9/10/2005
But you change gears so smoothly, dear Linda! :)Between the grad filter and the vignetting, you have brought out a wonderful image that's filled with a sense of nostalgia, but also stately grace and strength! The first thing that came to mind when I saw this was an ancient greek city, with its soaring columns and pavilions - the muted tones reinforce that image in my mind...
Excellent job, my friend! Besos y abrazos!!

NN     {K:26787} 9/10/2005
Hi Linda! Very beautiful tones & composition. The hotel complex stands out perfectly! Love this tranquil scene, even the small waves in the distance :) *hugs*

Toshi    {K:12024} 9/10/2005

Roberto.

P. Christine Skinner   {K:27338} 9/10/2005
I love the soft misty quality of the water and the way your eye glides smoothly and gracefully across it, to the strong, dark tones of the landscape and the subtle glow of the hotel. Taupe is such a marvelous, versatile and ambiguous colour. There are lovely hints of mauve, blue, green and brown. Serene with a touch of the surreal.

Rosario Esposito   {K:9796} 9/10/2005
Hi Linda, this image seems exited from a dream, the color is many soft, I like this BRAVA

Sam Graziano III   {K:14064} 9/10/2005
Linda, I think your re-post look awesome. I Love the way the hotel pops. You did a great job at presenting this shot.....It could have been cropped a bit tighter....Because the subject it the village..not the sky or water...they are just bonuses....That is just the opinion of a rookie....but Great shot and well seen ... None the less.

Best Regards

Sam III

Hi Linda

This I think is one of your best photographs. Beautifully presented it is a wonderful example of artistic expression.

Your decision to present the image in the way you have by removing the colour and combining the use of a grad filter and a vignette to produce an image that goes beyond mere representation and shows your growth not only as a photographer but an artist, someone in control of their craft.

I really like this image and thanks for sharing it with us. Into my favorites.

Take care
Mark

Carmem A. Busko   {K:48763} 9/10/2005
Hello, Linda?
how do you produce the vignette? Is it a render lighting effect?
The blurry effect... was it filtered with NI?
Nice artwork, I like it.
Thank you for your comment. Now, I'm going to post most often, and your visit is always welcome.
Cheers!
Carmem

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 9/10/2005
Wow Mark, thank you so much, I'm really flattered and so glad you like it...Linda

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 9/10/2005
Thank for visiting my work Carmem, the vignette is a part of CS 2 and yes the softness came from NI...so glad you liked this and I look forward to more of your wonderful work...Linda

Maria Luisa Vial   {K:36017} 9/10/2005
Do you live near "El Conquistador"???? Love the composition and vignette ?The noise adds like a kind of melancholy to the mood of the picture... Hope you are not depressed these days my dear friend... But I feel like some melancholy in your pictures lately...

Love this one my dear friend...

Kisses and Hugs,

MaLuisa

Saludame a Gabriel... :)

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 9/10/2005
Hola mi querida MaLuisa, Yes I do live near the hotel, but this isn't El Conquistador, it's a new hotel, I have no idea the name...don't see noise, do you? I am going to send you an email hopefully tomorrow, no my dear, I'm not depressed I just like this kind of mood stuff, but thank you for asking. I'm glad you like this and I'm always so glad to hear from you, besos y abrazos....Linda

Maria Luisa Vial   {K:36017} 9/10/2005
Me again Linda... Well... it really look to me like "El Conquistador", it is the same kind of lay out... I did not know there was a new one... It would be nice to go there... I am going to tell Raamses... I saw some noice... but I am at my laptop right now... and LCD monitors are not the same as conventional ones... so maybe it is just the monitor... so if do not see the noise and nobody has mentioned it... It was maybe mine... :)

I am so glad you are not depressed... but surely you have communicated the mood in your pics... So, if this was what you wanted... you are really good at it...HEHHEHEHEHEHHE

I will be waitng for the email... Thanks so much for replying...

Kisses and Hugs,

MaLuisa

Best regards, Chris

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2005
Hi Linda,

the minimalistic setup really focus the viewer into the mood. the soft outcome makes the image an impressionistic work. good eye on that one.

when I look out of the window, I see the same colors =)

Hugs, Thilo

Ameed El-Ghoul   {K:42188} 9/11/2005
