About Subject background: Well, you all know Elvis. But you probably don't know that he currently lives in Nuernberg. ;-)

During my self-regeneration time where I intend to power up my UF motivation, I thought it would be a good idea to look around for subjects my friends would nail down. So I came up with The King as a tribute to Ann Texter, the uncrowned queen of HH (Hilarious Holgas). Check out here awesome stuff!
http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/53076.html

I will bring up more shots as part of my credit tour for my friends in the next weeks.

PS concept: Mild work on the colors to get the full flavour of The King. I was quite surprised how sharp he came out with that piece of plastic lens. My D70 AF may think about that =)

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59985} 9/11/2005

Artistic capture Thilo, I like the softness on the borders and the sharpness in the center, the low light effect is adding to the composition as well,
very well done,
Regards,

I love this, is this from the volksfest you had mentioned? I like the colors, the compo is superb splitting the image in two halves. Really well done~~~

Hey Todd,

this is at the fair (or in Germany: Volkfsfest) - Holga Wonderland. More to come. I tried some 35mm Holgas as well ;-) There are a lot of widescreen subjects here.

Hi Jeanette,

glad the reference to Ann is there ;-)

Hi Karen,

right ;-) It ended today in rain, so I wasn't able to go there again (which I intended to do). But spring is a great time for fairs as well.

take care, Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2005
Hi Ameed,

most of the effect comes from the Holga plastic lens - no need to to anything in Photoshop =)
thx for the feedback!

best wishes, Thilo

Ok I just went to Ann's image and told her you (the chicken) sent me, hahaha...I love the King...and I'm soooooo glad to know he is alive and well in Nuernberg, hahaha..may just have to run over there and see him. This is a fun image..It looks really good to me, nice color, (flavored well) excellent clarity, and nice composition, he always liked center stage...great exposure on that sky...to be honest, I'm not all that qualified to comment on the Holga since I'm just starting to recognize the images produced by one. Great work Thilo, if you want me to be tough, you're going having to not do it so good...hugs..Linda

Bradley Prue   {K:30312} 9/11/2005
Very cool, Thilo! I'm sure Ann feels honored, as this does bear a resemblance to her work. It is downright yummy, and reminds me of a roll of fruit flavored Life Savers! Awesome..

Lovely shot and great with the holga! Reminds me I need to buy one!
I like the perspective and how it makes his head so small (opposite of real life?)
Did you wait hourd for the cloud to be in the right place?
Omar

Hallo Thilo,

von Heidelberg nach Nürnberg ist ja nur ein kleiner Sprung...und vom Alter kann es stimmen ;)

das Licht und Schattenspiel auf der linken Seite finde ich spitze...

Hi Thilo! I like the way you captured Elvis, partly in heaven, partly on earth, as his voice never dies. Excellent angle and perfect sky/cloud!

Andre Denis   {K:56506} 9/12/2005
Hi Thilo,

The subject matter in the center works very well for this whimsical image of the "King"
Pure Carnival Glitz / Hollywood!

I like this style! photos with lots of irony are always interesting.

There is a famous photo of a storefront window, taken about two months after John F Kennedy was shot, in 1963, that shows portraits of Kennedy surrounded by huge signs Reading "SALE PRICE - 99 Cents" People on the street walk by in blurrs.

I know your Elvis photo is not meant to be that serious, but it is still a similar concept.

Andre

Ann Texter   {K:10058} 9/12/2005
wow Thilo! I'm so honored, thank you so much! :) almost looks like this Elvis has a moustache.. ha ha love the colors too.. really great! THANKS! ...and the credit tour for friends sounds like a fun idea.
Ann

Super-duper color and sharpness - like you say the sharpness is uncanny - perhaps the ghost of Elvis had something to do with it - perfect subject too ... love that wacky Elvis...K

Can't wait for my tribute as am curious how you see my work in general...hmmm?...you just keep raising the bar (finding better subjects),Thilo
this rocks!(pun intended)...the impact of the colors gives it oomph! and of course the holga blurred edges/vignetting adds to the charm...
(sorry to say i haven't made the trip to get my first holga pics developed, but hope to soon)
hugs,gayle 7+
