Very nice - I love how the focus recedes into the background with the two trees mirroring the one in the front .. K

This took my eye - bark texture and colour and lighting, against a brick background framed asymmetrically by similar trees. It's hard to explain sometimes why images appeal - this does.

hi, that mellow lighting with the subdued color and rich texture of the FG tree does it for me!
very good composing,Todd...has that September feel to me.....regards,gayle

Michael Mecomber   {K:814} 9/13/2005
Appealing image. I'll agree with Anthony, not sure why its appealing. It just has the right mix of texture, color, and simplicity. Well done...good eye because I'm sure most people would've passed this up.

I really like this. It's very simple, and I almost expect not to like it, but I really do. There is something very appealing about the textures, lighting, and general composition! I never would have taken this, but I wish I could!

I cannot say more than what has already been said on the appealing characteristics of this picture.

May I just insist on the nice contrast of straight and square shapes of the background building with "irregular" texture and curviline features of trees.

The absence of people is also a factor that emphasizes the particularity of this place that, without its inhabitants, looks more perfect!!

Thanks for sharing.

only sometimes constants are changing so slow...it takes year...but the change is there...for sure...

I cannot describe what makes it attractive for me...but it is...for sure as well...

Cheers,
Verena

For me,the lonely&romantic weather condition which is so well represented is the reason i love it!
Thanks Todd,

Hi Todd,

the trio is captured very well. and the trees are fighting back, aren't they? great focus/out of focus thing.

Very well seen.. the colors are great and composition is perfect. I agree with Kevin about loving the focus of the two trees in the background mirroring the one in the front.

Great light, Todd. I get the impression the whole building is below the trees because of the subdued light filtering down on it. Perfect slight defocus too.

Todd Miller   {K:16464} 9/14/2005
Ha! my wife said the same thing about the trees fighting back...i didn't even think about that on this one. maybe a subconscious thing though-i've been looking out for man vs. nature shots.

Hi, Todd and thanks for your comments. I was eyeing this picture and I was also attracted to it by some unknown factor - I read the other comments, and I don't think it has to do with photographic principles. Rather, I think it speaks to the unconscious. There's an element of "being there" or even of "deja vu" - something that you remember from a dream. It has a Rousseau (Le Douanier) quality in the rounded tree trunks. The lack of people or any distracting mundane objects makes it personally appriopriable to the viewer, as one's own experience. I think that's what it is. Very well done.

Great idea! The texture and patterns of the trees and the building in the background~ Nice!

Todd Miller   {K:16464} 9/15/2005
hi Ina,
thanks for your very interesting comments. interesting that you mention deja vu...as this is the second time i have visited and shot this location. didn't frame it this way the first time, but the light was identical. thanks for bringing Rousseau's work to my attention too...he's got some great stuff. will have to look further.

Mohamed Banna   {K:34222} 9/24/2005
great perfect details and contrast

David Tasker   {K:4194} 9/24/2005
I really like the sebse of depth that the foreground tree adds. I might have steped 1 pace to the left so that the tree was a little more of centre - - this is a great shot

Moe Rabie   {K:4390} 9/24/2005
hey Todd, i can't see anything creative, or special about this pic :)

Ian McIntosh   {K:38909} 9/25/2005
Qite a wonderful composition, flat field behind and nice soft contrasts.

Always a feeling not of isolation nor alienation, but bleak, a ghost city, as if an outer galactic shy photographer, separate from what he photographs, waits for everyone to be sleeping before snapping. The ?feeling? here is compelling? again your unique view of things...

Your fan, C.

Todd ? I tried sending you a note yesterday in response to your latest comment on ?Artifice? but wasn?t able ? maybe a glitch in the software as it happened earlier - or just my mistake. Regardless - the words are there for you.
