About Watch out Marcus! Watch out Darlene! I can shoot birds too! :) Okay, maybe not so spectacularly, but I like the feathers in this "standard duck pose"
From the kayak. A mother and two young ones just let me float right up to them in the marsh. I guess they thought they were invisible. I tried to get them to fly for some action, but they just swam away, unphotogenically. ;)

Thanks Rosario,
Not up to the same standard as Marcus Armani and Darlene Boucher. But good enough for me :)

Oh come on now Andre, your images are beautiful and I love coming here to check them out. Wonderful image and I'm amazed that you can actually photograph from a kayak, I would have trouble just staying upright! Beautiful!

Andre Denis   {K:57024} 9/14/2005
Thanks Darlene,
When I saw these ducks I immediatly thought of you and Marcus. I know this capture is so standard it is almost comical, but the feathers came out beautiful, so I was happy with it.

As far as shooting from a kayak is concerned... what you don't see is all the shots that I miss :)
I have a lot of just half a beak or a splash with no bird, or plain sky, or plain water :))
I guess that's what the delete button is for.

Wonderful details and lighting. The blurred out grass on the right is a little distracting though.

Judi,
Yeah, I know what you mean about the grass. I was hiding behind a few blades :)

Ok Andre Im going to shoot wonderful classic cars now. you not supposed to shoot this nice of a bird shot. That is amazing color and feather detail, I really would like to see more wonderful bird shots like this from you, come on over there is plenty of room, maybe with another dedicated bird photographer we actually get a project for us, Hint to AL! Really nice Andre but watch out its addicting...

Andre Denis   {K:57024} 9/15/2005
Hi Marcus,
The kayak just drifted right up close to this mother and two young ones! They seemed to be almost not bothered, until I intentionally made some noise to try and get some action from them.
Until then this beautiful specimen was just content to stand there in the standard duck pose with what looks to me like a stupid smile on it's face :)
I've tried to take shots of birds in action in the past, that's why I appreciate how good your shots are. I can get a few good ones as long as they stand still for me... or if I feed them :)
You are right about it being addictive. There is a lot of satisfaction in getting a nice shot from their natural habitat. Even if it is a silly duck :)
Looking forward to seein some automotive shots from you. I'm sure you have taken a few in the past.

great capture... love the colors.. very sharp.. good work

Andre Denis   {K:57024} 9/16/2005
Thanks Paul,
I got a little lucky on the feathers on this one.
I wasn't expecting it to come out like this when I took it.

Nice shot Andre . Getting this image from a moving kayak is certainly not easily done . Especially not an image this sharp . Wow !

Andre Denis   {K:57024} 9/17/2005
Thanks Rob,
Like I mentioned before, Nobody sees the ones that don't come out right :)
Sometimes it can be disappointing if the auto focus picks up some nearby branches instead of the subject. The bird flys away or dives and you are left with nothing. I was happy with this one :)
Andre
