About Wish I hadn't cropped off the top of the door. I needed a pod, but had to rest the camera on the floor for steadiness.
So maybe I should go back and try again!

I don't mind the missing door trim at all. Perfect lighting seeping through and wonderful shadows! The slight grain adds a nice touch. Bet this would look great in b&w, too!

If this is in your house, I envy the 'emptiness' at which you could shoot! Fantastic looking room!

For the record...who is Peter...and where did he go??

sammy -   {K:4108} 9/13/2005
Kes-

nice!

composition looks great to me...

You have tripods right?

What camera are you looking at?

Onur Özbakan   {K:16763} 9/13/2005
very good as it is, s story telling image, very well done (BW would also do good for it) conrats Keseph! :)

Kes     {K:18368} 9/13/2005
timur - Thanks for stopping by!

Kes     {K:18368} 9/13/2005
Hi Janet! We just moved my mother in with a sister, as she is selling her (this) house. I have a fantastic studio for a couple of weeks!

Peter - heh heh....not at his "gate".

Kes     {K:18368} 9/14/2005
sammy - lol, yes, I have tripods...just not always with me.

Maybe a Nikon D70..gotta do some research. What do you recommend?

Kes     {K:18368} 9/14/2005
Onur - thanks! Indeed, some of the shots did well in B&W...actually probably better than this shot, perhaps at sometime I should post one.

Janet B   {K:16139} 9/14/2005
Oh my gosh, Keseph, how dumb am I ??
I get it now!

Take advantage of those vacant rooms! Please!!

Hi Kes-

I dunno about cameras. Even though most photography can be done with inexpensive cameras, I would still go for the best you can afford. I like my S2 Pro well enough, but the new Fuji S3 is quite a bit more $ than the D70. The only (and rare) problem I have with the S2 is not being able to catch fast moving subjects like flying birds in focus. Maybe I just need more practice. In other words, maybe the higher performance AF systems of the much more expensive D2H or D2X might not benefit me at all.

There are two nice things about my S2. Fuji allows you, and even tells you how to clean the sensor, which I have had to do twice. Nikons have to go the repair shop. The other nice thing is my S2 uses AA size high performance nickel metal hydride batteries, so I can use the really great Maha chargers. Widely available alkaline AA will also work in a pinch. Furthermore, I don't really want to have to deal with installing Nikon software and learning about their propietary RAW format. This last bit might not be that big a deal but just reading about it is makes my eyes tired . Hopefully I won't have to buy a new camera for a long time. I don't know what your $ situation is, a D70 will probably be great for you, and you can always use it for backup when you eventually get a $five grand model. Hope I haven't made the choice even harder by writing this...

I love it Keseph, the light coming throught the door is wonderful, love the yellow and the rich tones of the chair, and the simple composition, the vignette works perfectly here...Linda

I wonder if you couldn't extend the canvas size and clone in a corner? Just a thought. It's a really nice photo even without the corner. Says LONELY!!! You've created a poignant mood here.

Kes     {K:18368} 9/15/2005
Thanks for noticing all that, Linda!

Kes     {K:18368} 9/15/2005
Susie...I don't have a clue about "extend the canvas size and clone in a corner?", but I might stop by the house and take some more shots.

Thanks for your comment, I didn't know if it said "alone" without the title.

Kes     {K:18368} 9/15/2005
Sammy -

posted this earlier...I thought...try again

- What camera? -

What is this money stuff? What tree it is from?
Seriously, though, I agree that you/I should buy the best that is possible. The D70, make that a used D70, might be in my price range.

Those kids want to eat every day...so anyhow....
:-)

I'm not sold on the D70, just looking. I came across this interesting thread this morning
http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BdG4

and the search and research goes on...plastic body on the D70, metal on the D100...

Seems like we discussed this previously on another thread elsewhere...I'll have to check.

Sammy - sent an email to ya

Fantastic point of view! Great composition, nice lighting line! Great crop and work dear Keseph! 7+++
My best regards!
Robert

Peter, for me it was a toss up between this image and 'cattails in black', this is 'the winner'!......the shot is well composed, the idea is simple and effective, the image leaves a lot of questions unanswered which makes it exciting from where I see it, well done, good work, cheers, david.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 9/17/2005
Very exciting angle - I'm glad you didn't have a tripod, this is what makes it interesting (looks like you're crawling) + the light coming through the door + the empty chair ...and the title is priceless.

Kes     {K:18368} 9/18/2005
Thanks for your kind comment, Robert!

Kes     {K:18368} 9/18/2005
David, thanks for looking! My original working of "cattails in black" wasn't as "correct" as the UF image, but somehow I think it was better...I may repost it sometime.

Kes     {K:18368} 9/18/2005
Hi Ina, glad you saw that "crawling" aspect of the shot! Thanks for your comment!

CorrieLynn Jacobsen   {K:9882} 9/25/2005
I cant even begin to tell you how much I love this image... the framing and composition are so original. The tiny glow comming through the door leaves such mystery too. This is fantastic!!

Timothy Schirmer   {K:7183} 9/26/2005
Amazing shot, wonderful angle. What really captivates me is the yellow glowing light from behind the door. -Tim

Rupert Phillips   {K:1171} 10/12/2005
Lovely atmospheric photo. The tilt really works for me.
Regards,
Roo.

Mort Gage   {K:2733} 10/21/2005
kes - i just saw this browsing your stuff...i think this wonderfully simple shot with the tile sings with incredible "minor chord" emotion...moving work

luis pereira   {K:18289} 9/20/2006
You did just fine and there's something terrifying about this one.

Alice M   {K:1425} 11/19/2006
Nice
