What fuss? I just stitched four circular fisheye images into a 360-degree wrap-around panorama! If you like wide angles, a 70 to 300mm zoom on a camera with a 1.5 multiplication factor IS making things rather difficult for yourself, but hey, stitching is FUN! And you made a good job of this, although it's a bit soft. There's very good software that makes it easy to do, if you want to do more...

not sure what software your referring to...I have had several that I had to pay for that were not as easy to use as the 'free-bee' that was included with my Canon S2. It's just so simple to use...vertical, horizontal, matrix and 360 degrees....I have attached one I recently did of my neighborhood pool (far from perfect but not bad for handheld and 1 minute to process)

Oh definitely stick with what works for you! This is really very good, and for one minute's effort it's astonishing--a nice panorama! My own choice is the latest version of PTGui, the shareware graphic interface for the PanoTools freeware suite. I am hoping that Al will open the experimental area for panorama lovers that he said he would consider after the upgrade is completed. I presume you would be interested to participate? One of the things I was pressing for was virtual reality viewing of immersive panoramas...
