This is a wonderful moment caught! I can see three major elements in this composition - the tired and bored boy, the father enjoying the coffee and the newspaper and the window - the object of the boy's aspirations. The image talks for itself. The lighting is very balanced and perfectly highlights the main elements of this wonderful composition.
Also, I'd like to stress out that the title itself is the core component of the composition; it does dictate the tone and perception.
I have a minor technical comment, though. I think if the boy should had been sharper to be in complete synch with the main idea of the composition. It is good that the other objects are out of focus, but the composition "demands" the boy to be much sharper. I understand that probably you had no choice taking this with wide open lens at high exposure, which caused some unwanted softness.
Despite the technical note, I truly love this image.
Congratulations with big success!

Regards - Armen

Thanks!! Yeah I fully agree.... the boy needs to be sharper... but 1/15s and f1.4 does not make this possible.... but that's reportage I guess. And how the h*ll do these average ratings work??? How can you have 6.3 from 3 ratings when you can only rate 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7!!???

Mark - I am personally disappointed that you changed the title. It was perhaps my favorite UF "presentation" (photo AND title....it was such a good marriage of the two) of all time! Just thought I would pass along my opinion. Nevertheless, I enjoyed looking at your portfolio and appreciated the friendly reminder to me to put the newspaper down and listen more often (i.e., spend some "Quality Time!!?"). I am looking forward to more of your posts!

Hi! I've changed the title back based on your comment!! Many many thanks for your time and valued opinion!

I always had the same question regarding the ratings. I rated your image 7. If other two rated it at 5 and 6, the average would be 6, not 6.3. If any of those ratings was lower, the average would be lower than 6. I presume that there is some weighting applied to the grades. Maybe based on the rank of the reviewer? I had also noticed in the past the following. I rated a picture which had some rating (forgot the actual numbers). My rating was greater than that number, so you would assume that the overall grade should go up, or at least stay the same if the number of ratings is very high. But, believe it or not, it went down.
Either there is a bug in the software, or the calculation mechanism is not linear.

Ha! Yeah I know.... I am very 'mathematical'... and this is not a big thing.... but it makes me really curious.... I've asked 'support@usefilm'.... but I got no good answer.... how an average can decrease when it is rated higher is a mystery...!!???
