About I took this about 10 minutes ago from my front porch as a very short storm rolled through. Actually, this was the only visible lightning I saw. It is night here and totally dark. Needless to say, this brightened up things a bit. This is right out of the camera with a slight crop (of a white car in front of my house which blew out a little).

This is the first time I've taken a picture in weeks. I have been so busy. I'm sorry for being so behind on comments, but I will return soon.

Thanks for looking!

awesome mark, you must be thrilled!

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 9/19/2005
Thanks, Peta. I didn't know what I had gotten until I got it on the computer. All I saw was the big bright one in the middle. I was sure I had gotten it, but didn't see all the other stuff until later. I was thrilled. Needless to say, it about shook me of the porch!

Mark

Larry Quigley   {K:12884} 9/19/2005
A really great lightning shot, Mark. Perfect exposure. Very nicelly done, a keeper. How did you get the neighbors to turn their porch lights on? :-) This may have been the bolt that took our lights out for over an hour :-( Larry

Patrick Doty   {K:559} 9/19/2005
Very nice capture. I tried to get one myself last night, but like you said there were not many visible bolts.

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 9/19/2005
Thanks, Patrick.

It was a combination of being at the right place at the right time, and some luck that the shutter was open at the right time. I'll show you the 30 shots I have with nothing but the houses in them if you like!

Mary Brown   {K:68553} 9/20/2005
Wow what a fantastic shot!! What a great surprise for you when you looked at in on your computer. It is marvelous! A favourite, for sure.

Janet B   {K:16139} 9/20/2005
Fantastic...and not JUST the bolts of lightning, but the added effect of the house lights (especially the middle one!).
I have been longing for a try at lightning...it's been so dry here our grass has been dead since June!

Don Loseke   {K:32503} 9/21/2005
A great image Mark, I like the warm lights of the houses. That storm built up just to the northeast of our place. It was a huge cloud with lots of lighting. I didn't get the camera out but should have. Nice work Mark. Glad yuu are busy. Don.

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 9/21/2005
great capture.. I like that the houses are also in the composition and are in shop focus.. great work

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 9/21/2005
oops.. that was supposed to be "in sharp focus" :) What part of Omaha is this area?

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 9/21/2005
Thanks, Paul. This is in midtown Omaha in an area called Dundee. Most houses are around 85-90 years old.

Maria Conversano   {K:2666} 9/21/2005
Exellent and impressive capture! Amazing!
Cheers
Maria

Kay McIntire   {K:11787} 9/29/2005
WOW! We had a storm here tonight and I tried this... but no luck for me. It started raining too hard to stay out on the porch. Great capture- these are hard to do and you do them well!

Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 9/29/2005
Thanks Kay. I've been chased off the porch many times myself. Once the wind blows the rain, I'm outta there!

I just keep coming back hoping for that one shot. Luckily, I've gotten two pretty good ones this year.

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:86479} 10/1/2005
I hope your being busy was in your benefit, Mark and that you enjoyed it. I also think this magificent lightning photo makes up for time not spent taking photos.
Thank you for your very kind comment on my "Multiple autoportrait."
Bets regards,
Rafi

God, Mark, what a shot! I wonder if you not dropped the camera out of fright. Thanks for your visit: György

Paul Lara   {K:79994} 1/8/2006
It's always pleasing to catch that rare, visible bolt when it happens. Ever since I bought my cable release for my 20D, there's only been one decent storm roll through here...and I got it.
