About I pass this house regularly on the way to a shopping mall. It sits by the side of a major road and is surrounded by both residential and industrial complexes. Never really paid much attention to it, til recently...

As I took this shot, a sign lay on the ground behind me, partially obscured by overgrown grass and weed. It says, "Keep Out. Trespassers will be prosecuted".

Yeah, like that was going to stop me...

Very dramatic. I love the tones in this. Your conversions are great Rina. The space on the top of the photo is good here. It really gives it a solitary feel.
I like your gumption...sometimes signs are just there for adornment, right?

Rina, I really love this. The tone you chose and where you positioned the house in the frame is really creative and appealing. It keeps my attention which is so important I think :)

Claude Lussier   {K:4623} 9/20/2005
Great capture Rina , I like the tone and contrasts, this one seems to be on a small hill. If the capture were mine I would a little more have crop it on the top.

Regards
Claude

Thanks Peta!

I tried something a little different this time. With where I positioned the house, vignetting just wasn't going to cut it, so I used PS lighting effects to help keep the attention drawn to the bottom-left. I'm pleased it's worked out...

Cheers
Rina

That looks lovely Claude. Thank you for your suggestion and for taking the time to play with the image!

Cheers

Love the tones, Rina! Sometimes I have a really hard time converting shots, but you do it well! It's hard to believe from this shot that the house is surrounded by ANYTHING! It looks so solitary! Nice job!

excellent shot Rina, the sepia tone works well in this shot

Rina     {K:27299} 9/20/2005
Thanks Kathy! There were only a couple of good angles to take a shot without buildings and rooftops getting in the way :)

Cheers!

Fantastic image...it says "alone". Great job of isolating it from the surrounding environment.

Superb image, Rina...wonderful composition and tonality. Such a dark sense of isolation...strangely chilling. Excellent!

Wonderful moody tones really fit!
Well done, Rena! Worth being a law breaker!

pan giannakis   {K:16899} 9/22/2005
Wonderfull sepia tones and great use of the empty space. Well done!

Gary Hill   {K:53446} 9/22/2005
Rina, this shot has (at least) two things going for it: excellent composition (which surely everyone would appreciate) and top subject matter (which I appreciate). Isn't it often the case that the scene you pass by frequently and think little about ends up becoming one of your best captures?
Regards, Gary (ex Croweater)

Rina     {K:27299} 9/22/2005
Thanks Pan! Delighted you stopped by!

So true Gary and thanks to the shutterbug, I'm seeing everything in a new light!

Hey, we aussies are spreading ourselves around a bit, eh? It's funny, the furthest south I ever travelled was to Wagga Wagga. Shame on me...

:)
