This is another like you said masterpiece. they really knew how to make um back then, the almost straight on perspective is perfect for this car and its special design, great job....

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 9/21/2005
Hi Marcus,
This "Birdcage" Maserati was considered to be pretty ugly in it's day (around 1961-63) But, Ugly has a way of becoming cute and quaint as time passes :)

Well I think it is lovely, and while the b/w is nice, I reach for the color version... A few details: the yellow line in the upper right corner (clone); touching the frame on top; the yellow frame - too overpowering for my taste, maybe a thinner line would be better?

Darlene Boucher   {K:15622} 9/21/2005
Beautiful Andre....looks like a toy!

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 9/21/2005
Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the comment and the suggestions. I agree with the choice of border. I probably should have gone with black or dark grey. Also the yellow line on the road. That one I debated about and decided to leave it in. Maybe because I was tired of taking out about 12 legs and feet :)

Hi Darlene,

It looks so innocent and fun sitting there like that, doesn't it. Then you think... this thing is capable of 175 mph or more in full race trim.
Expensive and dangerous toy!

well done :)

A ride in one of these comes only in my dreams Yahya!
Thanks for the comments, and thanks for visiting my portfolio.

Very nice the color and car.

Hi Andre,

yes, I like that version. The bw one is classic, but the popping color makes the image. the border is great to support this effect. maybe a bit narrow to the edges, but this is easy to say without a wideangle possibility =)

best wishes, Thilo

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 9/22/2005
Hi Thilo,
I was not sure on the border colour. Someone else mentioned that the border colour was too bold and I agreed to a certain extent. I agree with you saying that the border is too thin and on the one I just posted, I went with twice as thick and basic black. I think on this shot a larger border with more muted yellow would look right too.

Anyway lets forget the border... What a car!!! :)

Thanks for all your support Rosario,

Very beautiful image of this beautiful car Andre! I don't like yellow cars but this one looks very appealing :)

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 9/25/2005
Hi Fadel,
This yellow is not so bad, I think because it almost has a very slight orange blend to it. My old Spitfire used to be a similar colour (Bio pic)
I don't know if you noticed, (I hoped not) but on this shot I followed your advice and got rid of four pairs of legs and some other junk in the back ground. Sometimes even when it is obvious to the photographer other viewers will not notice until it is pointed out. Then once they know the work has been done, they are totally distracted by the area :)

Oh my! One of the most beautiful racing cars ever produced. Your composition and accuracy of exposure make for a fine rendering of this wonderful piece of racing history. Congrats.

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 9/26/2005
Thanks Richard,
I think the angle of this photo kind of flatters the Birdcage. I like them too. But, from the back, not so much. There were two of them at Lime Rock that day, both raced, both were just beautiful, as were all the other cars there. I'm very glad I went that day.

I didn't notice it at all, but now I see it as you said! :)

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 10/4/2005
Fadel,
As long as you didn't notice before I said anything, I suppose that's okay :)

Red or yellow, it says catch me if you can, Mr. Policeman! Looks like a lot of fun to drive. What's the body made of, fiberglass or metal?

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 1/21/2006
Hi Mark,
It's a Tipo 61 Birdcage Maserati. The body is lightweight aluminum over a light weight tubular chassis. They were, and still are very fast little cars. Not for the street! A pure thoroughbred racer, this one!
Actually a couple of them may have been converted for street use.
Andre

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/21/2006
Yes, nothing fancy, just pure racer. It would turn heads in the streets for sure. I'll have to find where I put my photo of a yellow Ford Cobra to show.
