Adore this. Beautiful composition, light and tones. It's been a long day, and I haven't got a lot left, but this created a spark! BravO!!!

Thanks Toni,
I'm glad you like this series. This was taken on a day when my wife and I arrived at the cottage in the evening. We were expecting to view a nice sunset from that same area of the dock shown in the picture. (that didn't work out) It was starting to get dark and the rain wasn't stopping. I decided to try a few shots with a tripod, slow shutter speed and telephoto, just to see how they would come out. Some were nicer than others. I think the two I posted caught the mood well enough. So, I'm pleased with them.

Hi Ray,
I was hoping that someone would comment favourably on the simple aspect of this one. I wanted to keep this image "clutter free" and plain looking. I think all that open space of the water helps to do that. It wasn't intentional at the time, but I think it came out a little like that Japanese art that has all the negative space around a simple figure. Maybe I should have even cropped it less tight to further isolate the subject?

Hi again Andre..the composition as it is caught my eye but maybe a lighter crop is worth trying. I agree there is a Japanese art flavour to this..I like it the way it is and I'm sure that a variation could be very interesting as well...good luck, best wishes...Ray

Thanks Darlene,
A little bitter sweet, I believe. Enjoying the rain on the one hand, but missing the sunset on the other.

A great composition Andre, love the tones to this - creates a moody atmosphere. Well captured.

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 10/3/2005
Thanks Toshi,
Moody was what I was going for. I was also trying out slow shutter speeds with the telephoto on a tripod, just to see how it would come out. I'm happy with the results.

Hi Andre,

your new series is quite impressing. not the typical andre style, but that's the reason why I enjoy it. it's always good to take a step aside.

the somehow shaky outcome is great here. adds to the mood. offcentering is well seen and done. and great to have the BW feeling as well.

very good work!

best wishes,
Thilo

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 10/3/2005
Thanks Thilo,
I almost didn't post this one because I had to enlarge it and crop it quite a bit. This, along with the rain and the 1sec shutter speed (on tripod) must have given it that almost shimmering effect. It seems a few people are seeing it in a positive way. So, I am pleasantly surprised.

Richard Dakin   {K:12852} 10/19/2005
A very emotional scene. Sad about the current atmospheric condition, but hopeful for a brighter tomorrow? Or maybe just enjoying the soft rain on a summer evening. Congrats.

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 10/19/2005
Thanks Richard,
That's what I liked about doing those two umbrella photos. There can be many different interpretations, depending on the viewer's mood.
A little sad, but on the other hand, a nice memory. Most people seldom take shots of disappointing days because they are in a bad mood. Lots of good pictures are missed because of that, I think.

I agree Andre. Any day is a good day for photography.

Luis  Steinberg    {K:17150} 7/19/2006
Nice atmosphere and best composition like the other umbrella's pic. LUIS

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 7/21/2006
Thanks Luis,
I remember taking these pictures... I was loosing the light fast and I was afraid they might not be sharp enough. But, I liked the result in the end.
Andre
