Thanks Linda, today I got all the fall foliage and some Halloween images, and almost got me arrested for "tresspassing" for photographing outside a barn, and I wasn't even close. Some people are so paranoid!

Thanks Tracey, nice of you to write! I didn't think the color version was too exciting, I thought B & W shows better the round shapes, this one's one of the few I did in B & W.

I love this, Ina! You are doing such a great job
of achieving tones lately! I love the dark tones in this one...although I'll bet that the color version is pretty nice, too. Way to go!

Hi Kathy, today I tried to photograph among some gory Halloween scenes, some more pumpkins, wood baskets, a corn field, straw bales, and... a waterfall. The weather's been sunny for a change, it makes all the difference in the world. Have a great time, and thanks for writing! Ina

My kind of subject matter! It can be photographed in many different styles, including toy cameras (Holga, Diana, etc.). What's so appealing about this is the tonal range, from extreme highs to deep rich black, and everything in between.
I remember you once asked about the Diana camera, and wanted to let you know about one website featuring this camera:

Hi Mark, thanks for the comments and the links. I usually reply sooner, sorry about being so slow this time. I am not a trained photographer, so it might take a stretch of imagination for me before I see what is the appeal of the toy camera (beside a certain effect and what's described in your bio statement). I don't dismiss it at all, some pictures have a very nice appeal, but I also wonder if there is a bit of a "cult" involved? I mean, "insiders" vs. amateurs?

Pertaining to the toy camera crowd, I wouldn't doubt it if it is a cult, but it differs with each individual. I use toy cameras because there's no other way to express a certain concept. Some people take things too seriously, and it goes both ways. There was once the F/64 group, and that was something of a following, with their pursuit of technical perfection with lenses and tack-sharp images. And before them were the pictorialists who often used soft filters or soft lens blur effects. And as far as insiders versus amateurs versus outsiders, nothing qualifies it. In certain circles, I'm in, and in others, I'm shunned. Nobody in Van Gogh's time considered him in. But he was the best painter of his era. It's okay if you don't understand something. That's being honest. That just means you have another way to express yourself, and another way of perceiving what you see, hear, or feel. I'm just glad you are open to possibilities. Take care!

Great explanation, Mark! So how do you use your Holga? Do you have it with you all the time, just in case you see a suitable subject, next to your other camera, or do you decide "today I'll take the Holga" and look for a subject? I'm interested more in understanding the thinking process. As for the F/64 camp - that could be interesting as well. I'll Google to see some of their images.
