About Thunder clouds were right over the top and behind me making the foreground dark and low contrast. The sun was streaming out over top of the thunder clouds, lighting up the sky over the lake. I thought it looked pretty interesting.

Just a simple landscape... desaturated for subtle colouring. Didn't quite work in B&W.

The desat works very well in this Andre...just perfect for this scenery. It gives the photo a cooler feel somehow. Even though the sky is blue it doesn't look like it's very warm on the beach...strange how that works. I like it a lot.

Nice clouds, maybe a slight increase in the midtones would further emphasize the effect.

Thanks Darlene,
My photos are going to have a little darker feel to them for the next couple of days ;)

Thanks Susie,
I agree, I think this has a cool feel to it too. The ironic thing is, I took this back in June on a warm night, just after a thunderstorm :) It was one of those storms that is violent and over in a flash and the sun comes out right away again.

Thanks once more Inji,
It's so nice to have your positive support!

Thanks for the suggestions Endre,
I will try a mid tone adjustment.
I do have another version of this, but chose to only post the desaturated version because I thought stronger colouring altered the mood too much. I was trying to keep it very simple.

Great, was slightly worried, as some people are quite sensitive to criticism, hope you are not dear Andre!
My best,
Endre

Hi Endre,
I don't mind people doing a critique and throwing in a few suggestions. It's the way we learn. Way back in the old days, when I first started fooling around with "photo - arts" we used to have a time set in class where everyone prestented what they thought was their best image of the week. Everyone in the class had to say one positive thing and one negative thing about every photo on display. Of course all of us being young, a lot of feelings were hurt. But we soon learned how to give and take criticism :)

In this case I was trying to go for a desaturated look that I think many people might find too dull in the foreground.
Here is a slightly different version that may be closer to your suggestion.

Andre

Brighter mid - tones

Endre Novak   {K:12534} 10/27/2005
Andre, actually it is just the way I thought, Like it! of course other people may say its too much.
Glad you took the critique in + way, always cautious, because we are not here to hurt anyone
(neither like it anywhere else)
Thanks for posting,
My best,
#7 for the reedition :-))
Endre

Thanks Endre,
I like the re-worked version too. Thanks for the suggestion. I still like my original too, then I've got to say that :)

Hi Andre, I think I much prefer the second shot. When I first looked at the original I loved the delicate colouring and you are right about going into mono, too simple to have worked. The second shot, however, suddenly livened up the simplicity of the scene and increased the range of blues and greens. Well done Andre and you are so right about giving and taking criticism....Best wishes my friend.....Ray

Andre Denis   {K:56377} 10/28/2005
Hi Ray,
I agree that the second version has a lot more range and bolder colours. It probably is more pleasing to the eye at first glance. However, I sometimes find that photo images are a little like candy or pop songs... meaning that if you like something right away, you might tend to get sick of it in a hurry. Some images, whether on this sight, or in books need a few viewings to get used to them or appreciate them.
Having said that, I can't say that I planned the original image to have the kind of staying power that I am trying to describe. (and it probably doesn't :)
I will say though, that I am usually pretty consious of trying not to make my images too postcard like.
I do like both versions, but I'm still kind of undecided which I prefer in the long run :)
If it wasn't for this discussion and Endre's suggestion, I might not have even given this image much more thought. This is one of the great things about this site!
Thanks for commenting in detail Ray.
Andre
