Cool work Toby.
Is that the guy's shadow on the far right?

tight move... did he land it?

Tobiah Deutsch   {K:2432} 11/4/2005
Matej,

Yes... thats his shadow at the very far right. There is another on the very far left just out of frame. I shot this with two flashes. This flash set up is pretty standard for me.

Thanks for looking! Cheers,
Toby

Terry,

I didn't specifically understand you're message... sorry. But it sounds like you've got both a fish eye and an off camera flash. You're looking to use the both of them.

Tips on off camera flash? The biggest things for me are that I have the ability to power up/power down my flash power manually. The second is that I can put those flashes WAY WAY off camera. If all you have is a cord, then that length is all you have to work with. If you can get your hands on some radio slaves, they will work MUCH better for you.

Technique... If you're using two flashes, Meter your exposure for the back ground. Then power your flash up to match up the subject/foreground. Try not to use TTL, go manual if you can, it works out much better. Also, use the flash at a 45 degree angle to what you're shooting at. Approx. If you set up the flash off camera straight behind you, you might as well be using it on camera. If you are using one flash try to use that flash as an ACCENT, i.e. rim lighting. Expose for the skater, don't worry about the background so much and then set your flash to over expose a bit. That accent/rim light if done right, will give your photo TONS of depth, and contrast and really make it pop.

As far as the fisheye goes, unless you're in ultra close, you should be able to focus to infinity and back up slightly and get good images. I'd start with that.

Hope this helps. If you want... you can email me at deutsch@uwm.edu and I'll try to help you out more.

Cheers,
Toby
