About I returned to Keswick jetties almost exactly a year since my last visit in the hope of a stunning dawn but it was wet and grey again! Still, there were some nice autumn leaves washed up on the edge of the lake so I scooped some up and threw them in the water so that the lapping waters would blur them into coloured patterns. The wind was blowing hard and I had to wade a little way out to pull the boats in to the land to stop them moving. By aligning the camera so that it was facing into the wind and waiting until a new cloud front began to move across the sky, I've used the motion of the clouds to create a symmetry with the rowing boats. I used a 2 stop soft ND to tone down the sky, an 81B warm-up to counter the cold blue light and a polariser to remove the bright reflection on the foreground water so we can see the leaves beneath the surface.

As much as I appreciate the leaves in the water, my favorite part here is the rich color of the wooden boats.

A very pleasant reminder of our recent flying visit to the lakes, Barry!
Exquisite composition and exposure.
Kind regards, Chris

Well controlled Barry and a nstunning image despite the weather. It can be a bit of a gamble but when its right it is right.

Unparalleled shot! My only criticism: don't keep rasing the bar and our expectations any more;-)

Your set-up work really paid off. I like how the "fan" of boats echoes the cloud pattern. -- Naomi

this is wonderful!
i like very much vertical composition that leads eyes from a very relaxed and static subject in the bottom to a dinamic sky at top!
lighting and exposure give perfectly idea of dawn.
bye
