I looked twice to make sure. It could be a stand-in. This is another of your great bold cityscapes. Congrats.

Best regards,

Gennaro Guarino   {K:12168} 11/9/2005
great and dramatic black and white, great the composition.

Sally Morgan   {K:9219} 11/9/2005
I like the mood and the composition, some of it is a little dark though - I'd like to be able to see more of the base of the buildings on the right and the area around the heads of the people in the distance.
I like the sky, and the smoke from the chimneys really adds to the atmosphere.

Andre Denis   {K:56377} 11/9/2005
Thilo,
A wonderful homage to one of the most famous "movie star posters" ever made! You can not go wrong with this scene. Do you know who took the original photo of James Dean walking down the street like that, with his collar up and cigarette in his mouth? It might have even been Avedon, but I am not sure.
I like the balance and the industrial look of the background too. Very well done!

PS I have some photos of the exact kind of Porsche Spyder that James Dean had his fatal accident in. There was one at the recent vintage festival that I went to.
Andre

Thilo,
I forgot to mention, John McEnroe had a shot of himself taken like this for the cover of a book that he did a couple of years ago.

Hi Jeanette,

I posted a color version with a different cropping some time ago =)

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 11/9/2005
Hi Andre,

I know the car James Dean died in when I see it. He was such a car lover...

Thx for the feedback, Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 11/9/2005
Hi Sally,

the original image has a lot of problems with the lighting... So this was best to get out of it without losing dynamic range.

Thx for the honest feedback,
Thilo

Angelo Villaschi   {K:49617} 11/9/2005
Nice... like the slight oversharpening, Thilo. Good results in b&w. Haven't seen the colour one.

Roberto Carli   {K:13689} 11/9/2005
Intersting sky effect, really a good job!!!
Ciao Thilo!!!

Andre Denis   {K:56377} 11/9/2005
Hi Thilo,
The photographer that took that famous shot of James Dean was named Dennis Stock. He took it in 1955

NN     {K:26787} 11/10/2005
Hi Thilo! Excellent conversion, perfect composition (apart from cropping off that lamp, LOL) ... and a FABULOUS sky/mood! This really takes one back to the 50?s :)

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 11/10/2005

Todd Miller   {K:16464} 11/10/2005
i love this place you keep bringing us back to. great tones here...you didn't get down with the channel mixer here?? love these tones.

so does Chrissie post on UF? if she's good enough for you, and routinely puts her cam on the ground...i bet she's got some great work too!

Roland Lacson   {K:12214} 11/10/2005
A dramatic & moody image, the high contrast gave it alot of punch & like the smoke billowing from the chimmneys, sky looks great too. The conversion to grayscale (B&W) was an excellent choice Thilo, well captured & seen, regards.

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 11/10/2005
Hey Todd,

no channel mixer this time ;-)

as for Chrissie: She is IMHO incredibly good but she doesn't have the motivation to show her pictures online... Maybe I can push a bit =)

best wishes,
Thilo

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 11/10/2005
He is walking away from some mighty light in the distant background...

Magnus Beierlein   {K:1490} 11/10/2005
This is really cool Thilo......the dramatic sky and the chimneys creating the industrial feeling....a very good version of the classical photo

Magnus

Antonio Trincone   {K:23167} 11/10/2005
a bit artificial mood due to extreme sharpness or something other I am not able to understand; extremely right choice for a BW though

Ian V   {K:1730} 11/27/2005
Great shot Thilo, I like that you kept the NYC in the corner, and the amount of detail you kept in the clouds is incredible. Your black and white work is really inspirational.

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 11/29/2005
Really cool. I like this side of your creativity.
