Great idea to lighten up a photo like this. I always tend to use a lot of dark tones. But I must admit, it works well. Nice angle as well.

What a sweet little girl. Her smile is so cheerful, expressing her love to you. The missing part of teeth enhance this picture and make it timeless. Great capture, David!

WOW!!! Tons of energy and life here. Love the crunchy contrast and the tonality! Also the fact she is entering from the right and you've left empty space on the left of the composition is brilliant!

What a sweet toothy little smile! I love the tiny gap between her two front teeth, and her eyes are beautiful!. I Really like the over exposure on this.
(i see that your shutter speed was pretty fast-so im guessing you lightened in photoshop?)
Im also curious what your lighting was like in this one when you actually took the picture. Did you suse a flash? or were you just out in very bright light? I suppose the reason i ask is because i dont know if ive ever been in enough light to take a portrait at such a high shutter speed! Is your lense extremely short? Or is this just something that is more easily acheived in digital photography than film photography?
Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks so much CorrieLynn! I took the photo on a playground. I was on one of those wobbly bridges found on many playgrounds and my daughter was walking down in the sand looking up at me. I was walking, too to keep to with her. I could hardly look through the viewfinder and kept shooting.
The actual shutter speed was 1/640 at f/2.2. At ISO 200 that is an EV (exposure value) of 10.5. Direct sunlight is 15. It was a bright day but I had no sun on her so its nothing too unusual. You have that much light from the sky.
Shutter speed is a very important factor to get good detail in the photo. In general its recommended to use at least 1/60 or higher to avoid blurring through camera shake. In reality its often much worse. At higher shutter speeds the blur doesn't show as the obvious camera shake blur, but it still makes the photo slightly soft. Depending on the lens I'd say at 1/250 or up you are staring to get into the gree zone.
Did you notice how much sharper photos look that were done with a flash? The length of a flash is usually between 1/10,00 to 1/20,00 second which eliminates every motion blur.
Anyway, I did a lot of editing in PS. I attach the original so you can see the difference.
Regarding her teeth, that is actually part of an accident she had. She fell right on her teeth on concrete. She had her pacifer in her mouth that was almost cut into two pieces when she hit the ground. She was rolling on her little push car, got stuck on the curb and hit the ground. I was up on the roof of our house, saw it all, but it took me "forever" to get down from there.

Oh my goodness, that must have been horrible to be helpless and up on a roof! I know that awful sick feeling of watching your child get hurt, makes me sick jsut to think about it. My son had a bit of a tooth accident a few weeks ago, fell flat on his face with a toy in his mouth. All his gums turned black-i was sure all his teeth would too. But sure enough, theyre ok, thank goodness.
As far as the light thing goes, this is my issue, and maybe im still not getting it.. and maybe my lenses are just all too big...
but i never seem to have enough available light to use such fast shutter speeds. Indoors ESPECIALLY. Even with my shorter, faster lenses. And mind you, ive taken them them anyway at faster speeds for sake of sharpness, but they never lighten very well without being really noisy. Theyre fine with a flash, but i'd like to avoid using it whenever possible.
