About This is a large rock formation at Red Rock Canyon State Park in California. Just as I left my friend in a photo I posted a few days ago and titled "Bedrock Red Rock" I am also leaving her in this one to show scale again. These rock formations are quite large and coloured with unique shades of red layers and undulating folding lines caused by millions of years of eroding weather patterns. It's a facinating place well worth the visit if anyone is ever in the area.

Thank you to all who may take the time to view and comment on my photos.

Enjoy :)

Cheers - Ann :)

A giant scoop of icecream with some layers of caramel sauce around the top... and one blue sprinkle at the bottom :)) Am starting to visualise more, so I think it may be best if I had my dinner now...

Wonderful composition and perspective Ann. Marvellous to visually soak up all the different patterns and shades of colour.

Congradulations for being on home page for the good advise you gave. Two times in one week. What the....? No fair. No, you really deserve it.

Anyway, this is a great photo. I am glad you left your friend in the photo for a comparison to the grand rocks. I would have never imagined them to be this tall otherwise. Very beautiful formations as you stated in your comment. Wow, this is in California. Where at?
Kelly

Gabriela Tanaka   {K:17991} 11/13/2005
"The Red Cathedral", dear Ann! Very inspired shot! The degrade of colours and the tops of the towers wrapped in red lacy veils create a unique image! My sincere compliments! Also, congratulations for being again on the front page with your critical acumen!
Best regards from Gabriela

These rocks look so imposing. Very interesting. Don.

Robert Gaither   {K:29674} 11/13/2005
Yes I think it works rather well for scale having the person in it. Have to be careful when your upclose to cliffs and red rock for stuff falling down on you. Excellent image.

jacques brisebois   {K:57520} 11/13/2005
What a cliff, very impressive, and your friend give us an idea how big it is.

Alicia Popp   {K:83869} 11/13/2005

Margaret Sturgess   {K:49403} 11/13/2005
That is huge, shows the scale even more than the other onte.

Saw your reply in the forum Ann, it is not better. Some really good photographers [and friends] are also leaving, I will try and hang in there, as there is much to be gained. Am not too well at the moment so will not make a decision but will not be very active either. I appreciate your support

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 11/13/2005

Imparesionante paisaje natural.
Felicitaciones!

David McClenaghan   {K:9481} 11/14/2005
Thats certainly spectacular.
The scale is quite deceptive.
Without the figure you would not imagine it being that high.
Cheers

Yahya El Hosafy   {K:8366} 11/14/2005
wonderfull view and colors.
very well done Ann.

Susie OConnor   {K:34798} 11/14/2005
Wow! This one is even more impressive. Someday I have got to go see some of these places you show us. This is fabulous Ann. The lines draw the eye right up the side of the rock. Good one.

cytte    {K:2089} 11/14/2005
i like the red layers on this one. it looks like a ice cream scoop with some sauce around the top.
very well done.

cytte

Hi Ann, this is another awesome shot and yes more so than the first. The colours and textures look great again and your friend looks so lonely against that mass. Well done on another front page my dear friend. Best wishes ..Ray

Ahmed Ismail   {K:19853} 11/14/2005
These rocks are amazing! The massive size and these colored layers must have happened over millions of years!! An intesting and beautiful capture Ann.

Janet B   {K:16139} 11/15/2005
Nature is just amazing!
All your colors here are stunning! Wonderful perspective!
I can imagine that your friend had quite the uphill climb to get to the point she is at??
Very cool image, Ann!

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 11/16/2005
Wow, Ann! The enormous scale of these rocks! Giants! - and indeed, like Rina, I see layers of chocolate ice cream and caramel. Your friend there is perfect for showing the scale, and the blue outfit she's wearing contrasts so nicely with the rocks. Also, I love that intense blue sky! That's why I love the South-West, the sun, the sky, and the red rocks! Tremendous picture! We are like little ants...

Ann Nida   {K:45230} 11/16/2005
Between you Ina, Rina and cytte why is it every time I come to my Big Red Rock photo I feel like eating ice cream. haha

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 11/16/2005
OK, OK, they look like giant carrots, so better go have some carrots instead!

marco "dheim" orciuoli   {K:4464} 11/16/2005
uuuuh, that's BIG! (quote taken from a hundred john holmes' movies... :))

Judi Liosatos   {K:34029} 11/17/2005
Wow...now that's a rock. Excellent use of the person to show the scale.

Judi

ade mcfade   {K:12388} 11/17/2005
I'm amazed at just how many parks there are in California!

We just did Yosemite and Death Valley en route to Vegas when we were there, thought about Kings and Sequoia, but they were too far off track!

another amazing formation that really did need the person in there to give a sense of scale.

we get little waterfalls, you get HUGE cliffs and canyons :-)

Ann Nida   {K:45230} 11/17/2005
Thanks for dropping by Judi. This rock is a bit different to our big red rock in the middle of OZ but I always enjoy a big red rock no matter where it is.

Cheers - Ann :)

Ann Nida   {K:45230} 11/17/2005
ade you saw 2 of the best park in CA. Death Valley and Yosemite are both so very different and so beautfiul. You did well to choose those. If you have any photos of Yosemite and Death Valley you should post them.

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments.

Cheers - Ann :)

Wonderful natural landscape - but what a great idea, to put a little human being there to give us an idea of relative size and just a spec of contrasting colour!

Hussam AL_ Khoder   {K:63849} 7/9/2008
