About On Saturday, there was a market of Okinawan goods in the concourse under Shinjuku Station, and the mannekin shows what the well-dressed Okinawan man is wearing today. Okinawa used to be an independent kingdom, and has rather different traditions in food and clothing from the rest of Japan. This was taken with my beloved fisheye lens, which renders colours brilliantly.

Heritage well framed, very fine indeed. Thanx for a new view of a colorful world.

Roger - at first I thought this was a sales representative for Kodak! Anything we should take away from the maniquin being rather western looking? If I came out of my bedroom in the morning wearing that, my wife would have a heart attack from the color shock!. Not a typical fisheye look to this one. - cheers John B

I love this one Roger, as you say the colours are wonderful. The fisheye is a great little lens, I just wish my 10D didn't have the anti-wide angle crop factor ;-)

Roger Williams   {K:84106} 11/16/2005
Thanks, Keith. The crop factor in the current range of DSLRs is one of the main things that keeps me from getting one. I might be happy with a Nikon D70 plus the 10.5mm fisheye (although it has some very unusual--and little known--chromatic aberrations that cause trouble when you are stitching panoramic images because the fringes are on opposite sides of the image in areas where they overlap!).

Hi, John. A lot of the show-window dummies in Japan have a distinctly western look. Japan has historically acquired much from overseas and there's still a bit of prestige to "imported" stuff, which usually sells at a premium. I try to keep the "fisheye look" under control because it soon appears gimmicky.

Great colors Roger! I love this look. The photo that is...the clothes would not become me, but look good on the dude. I would go without the hat though. There's so much to look at here and I guess that's what wide angle is all about. I'm starting to like my 28mm more and more.

Roger Williams   {K:84106} 11/16/2005
Well, Gary, this is about as far as you can go down the road to wider angles without using a circular fisheye (and those have a VERY limited application--I have one and rarely use it except for stitched panoramas). It's a 16mm rectangular fisheye that gives about twice the angular coverage of your 28mm!

Very fetching, Roger! Have you got one of these outfits? )
Certainly some nice colour in there!
Best regards, Chris

The colours are beautiful Roger, and such a great composition - and very interesting too
