I think your composition is great and your location to get this shot is perfect. I think the presentation could be better mainly in your post production work. I would color correct your scan in Photoshop. Your image has an artificial tone to it that hides the detail and color of your subject. If you're unfamiliar with how to color correct a scan let me know I can point you to an article I wrote on the subject.
