About Subject background: A yellow subway moving in... and a girl standing in front of it, not sure what to do next.

PS concept: essentially cropping. The soft outcome of the lady is due to the bad lighting situation.

Her puzzled thought match so well with the yellow blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

jezabel /tutku tokol   {K:10730} 11/30/2005

Nigel

Petal Wijnen   {K:47829} 11/30/2005
Cool shot!!! Fabulous flowing/flashing/fahrendes yellow!!!! Really like the static person, it adds 'contrast' (in color as well as movement) to the image, but to me it looks more like a guy... ;-D!!! (You didn't jump in front of the camera yourself now did you....??!!). Excellent composition... well done!!

Kiarang Alaei   {K:48318} 11/30/2005
Great imagine, thoughtful shot. exellent and craetive idea!

Omar Rifaat   {K:10135} 11/30/2005
great capture! the bright yellow adds to the juxtaposition. creates the feeling of being hopelessy trapped in a modern machine world

Todd Miller   {K:16461} 11/30/2005
awesome shot of the u-bahn(?) thilo...love that yellow and all the horizontals. the crisp detail on the moving train vs. the soft motionless lady is ironic and works great.

one thing that i'll always remember from my trip to Berlin is that voice... 'Ausstieg links'

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59796} 11/30/2005
Yepp - this went straight into my favorites... COOL! I like the lonely feeling, the composition and his thoughtful pose mixed with the moving train. Just excellent!!!! 7+++

Jeanette

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 11/30/2005
Hey Todd,

it seems you've been to Germany ;-)

Nowadays they say "Ausstieg in Fahrtrichtung links" =)

Magnus Beierlein   {K:1641} 11/30/2005
Together with some of your NYC shots this is probably the best I've seen from you......the motion yellow and the Liam Gallagher look is totally awesome....a fav for sure

Magnus

PS. I once was caught in the Berlin subway/train for riding without paying....I was taken to an office and the man took my passport. He told me the fine was 200 DM.....i finally got off the hook by playing the dumb Swede...

Todd Miller   {K:16461} 11/30/2005
i had to look up Fahrtrichtung!
anyways, i was in Berlin for about 5 days a couple of years ago. and spent 2 rainy days in Munich a few years before that. i LOVED Berlin...and am enjoying your pics from there. i could go for a berliner weisse and some currywurst right about now!

Andre Denis   {K:55493} 12/1/2005
Hi Thilo,
I really like this one! The composition and the colouring are wonderful. I can sense the speed and some confusion or tension from the girl because of it.
I still don't understand how anyone can make anything out of the rating system we have here?
I know it is weighted to try and compensate for people who rate too high all the time. I really can't see how the rating numbers are relevant.
For this reason, I never rate anyones images. I think I have only rated a couple during my first few days using this site.
Andre

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 12/1/2005
Makes it either way...is she moving, or the yellow train.

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 12/1/2005
Hi Andre,

agree with every word. I don't rate as well. The reason why I allow ratings with my images is: I don't know. =)

Thilo

Hi Magnus,

thanks mate. It's always Alice in Wonderland which pictures get awards and which not ;-)

Thilo

Andre Denis   {K:55493} 12/1/2005
Hi Thilo,
I've thought about taking the ratings off of mine at times. Not because they are low, (I think too high compared with some people's) Somehow it doesn't seem fair that some images can show a 6.5 rating with 3 or 4 positive comments, when a really great shot will only register a 5.6 with 40 positive comments. maybe I just have to learn how to interpret the rating?
Andre

Charles St.   {K:203} 12/1/2005

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 12/2/2005

vg, uwe

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 12/2/2005

NN     {K:26787} 12/2/2005
Hi Thilo! 6 favs speaks its own language - and the award - congrats! I see the passing subway as life, passing by too fast, when we stop to think. Fabulous contrast in movement and colours!

Carsten Ranke   {K:14453} 12/3/2005
Well seen, good use of motion blur, well composed/ cropped. I thought about a B&W, but the strong yellow is an extra nice stylistic element, IMO.
This zoom range is perfectly suitable for this kind of shot. My 10-22 lens is mounted all the time...

Cheers

Carsten

Glenn Owens   {K:143} 12/3/2005
Great shot, what i like best is the horizontal line in the yellow steel below the windows, appears to be standing still while the windows blur by. wonderful.

AJ Miller   {K:43691} 12/3/2005
Excellent capture of the movement - I particularly like the way the yellow fills in towards the right side, providing a contrasting background to the person standing there.
AJ

Roberto Carli   {K:13689} 12/4/2005

Excellent blurry image, Thilo. Great colours, and excellent contrasts in tone, motion/sharpness and orientation (horizontal lines, vertical subject) withing the picture.

Very well crafted and deserving of the award.
