The 300D has an IR filter over the CCD, this means you will need VERY long exposures through a Hoya filter (15-30seconds on a sunny day depending on aperture) http://www.echeng.com/photo/infrared/tutorial/ <--is a good resource for IR photography how to. Have you concidered "creating" IR without a filter? This can be done by chanel mixing in Photoshop, there are several different methods, but i find http://www.davrodigital.co.uk/tutorials/ir-oak-tree/undertheoak-ir.htm produces the most IR looking images there are. If you already have the filter, you will have to have a tripod, try to shoot on wind free days, and focus slightly close because of the differences in light. Hope this helps.

Do you already have the filter? If so http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/infrared/ will be a huge help to you. If you dont, its worth knowing the 300D isn't an ideal camera for the job, it requires huge exposures of 25-30seconds even on a sunny day. You can digitally emulate the same effect, http://www.davrodigital.co.uk/tutorials/ir-oak-tree/undertheoak-ir.htm details the best way of achieving this

Additionally keep in mind that some lenses are ggod and some not so good for IR, e.g. Canons 50mm f/1.8 can be used but Canons 50mm f/1.4 is more or less useless.

Hey Cessy, i'm interested in IR photography with the Canon 300D .. i read your reply here, would it be possible to show some example IR photos your friend made with the Hoya filter ? If needed, you can find my email address in my profile !

I have some photos on my portfolio taken with the Hoya R72B infra red filter (58mm).
Although my camera is an Olympus C8080 my colleagues camera is the 300D and has borrowed my filter and has very similar photos to mine !
I have obtained good captures from between 1sec to 10secs - although my tripod is fairly flimsy.
I have tried taking IR with the camera set to B&W mode and they did not come out as well - using colour and no compensation in the camera at all the result is a very dark red image which when desaturated using PS or similar package will show some suprising results !
I've also found the need to increase contrast and saturation a little and even add some toning to bring out the detail.
Just my few cents worth ;-)
Best wishes, Steve
